As we see it now, the SEA GULL represents not only ,those F L4 gateways which swing open to the future, but, f those which in the future we can open to what . 5151 ! H be the past. Later it will recall to us the intanf ' 1 bonds which will connect us always with Gulf. l wwf! 3 This year we have learned to understand, apprlz-ci and love Gulf Park and her traditions. We learned .ic ' know and greatly admire the faculty through th ' generous giving of time to sponsor our activities an to guide us in our academic work. We welcomed the friendships of each student. We recognized with pride scholars who achieved academic excellence, athletes who pulled the individual classes through sports com- petitions, leaders who took the classes through thick and thin, the queens who were elected for their poise, personality, and beauty. We enjoyed the unique op- portunities offered to each student-trips to Huck and Ship, athletic competition for class possession of ' Majesty the Goat, the Evangeline Tour, the Cruise, the Natchez Tour and Mardi Gras It was through all these that we gained the edge not only of events and ideas, but also of life, and committed to our memories the sounds of all the gates we had opened. 'T Here, now, is your 1963 SEA GULL, a record of the school year for you, the students. who opened the gates and lived the life, and made Gulf Park College what it was in 1963. These gates have now closed for the gradu- ates of '63, but this SEA GULL remains a key which will always reopen them.

Cooke, one gate is closing for all at Gulf Park College. Certainly no one who has ever known him can express the greatness of his service to so many, nor how much he will be missed by all. Dr. Cooke came to Gulf Park in 1929 from Northwest- ern State College in Natchitoches, Louisiana. In his position of Business Manager, he faced many special problems as a result of the depression and Wars, but there was never a job too great nor too small for him to handle. After serving as Business Manager, Dr. Cooke was named Vice-President of Gulf Park in 1950. This posi- tion presented new responsibilities and more Work, but he always seemed to enjoy all the activity and readily took on more if it would help someone. In an effort to offer even more opportunities for his girls, he ar- ranged for tours to historic Natchez, the Evangeline country, the Caribbean, and Mardi Gras which have provided unforgettable memories for countless stu- dents. However, Dr. Cooke will be remembered not only be- cause of the way he performed his business duties at the school, but also because of the personal interest he took in all students. His answers to all kinds of prob- lems, from boyfriends to bouncing checks, the friendly chats over dishes of ice cream, but most of all the smile and cheerful hello at every passing will be fondly re- membered as we think of the man who to everyone, on or off campus, is Mr. Gulf Park. For his undying devotion and unselfish service to Gulf Park, we proudly dedicate this 1963 SEA GULL to you, our own Dr. Cooke. 4-
