H 1 3 N ti ICRS Wt- are the Seniors of Gulf Park! These words will re-echo in our hearts long after we have left Gulf Park, and we will remember that the Class of '52 had a part in reinstating the true meaning of Torehbearers by passing the torch from class to class, rather than from person to person. We had secret studies and midnight ice-box raids, spirited scraps for His Majesty, the Goat, and greater privileges reserved to the Senior Class alone. Most of all, we had a great sharing of laughs and accomplishments and memories . . . Cur voices salute the Gulf of lylexicog our spirits soar in studying, playing, laughing and crying 'neath the whispering shadows of Friend- ship Oak. On the brink ol every new moment the juniors stand together . . . in dubbed title, a oneness of class . . , in rowdy reality, the meeting point of mutual dreams in friendship. It's all in the game. You're late for a classg your exodus home leaves you depressedg you win the goat againg you sign for the cruise in the carefree waters of the Carribean: you get more than your share of mail , , . you are a junior. All facts in biology at times seem evasiveg history dates are impossible to retain . . . but the aware- ness of being a junior never leaves your mind. Not only have we put out every effort to win and come out on top, but in all ways we have tried to show good sportsmanship, friendliness, and spirit. l'Ve like to think of ourselves as one big happy family, and love and sincerity are evident traits in Lloyd Hall. CRES A A Everyone's cooperation has been important in making our class one of which to be proud. Hard work, pep, and initiative have all gone into everything we have undertaken. Even though we may not have won every time, it was im- possible to feel totally defeated. S pO7l30I' Howdy, folks-How you-all? First off I'd better introduce myself. Sir Sea Gull, that's the name. Right now I'm going to give you the highlights of Gulf Park. Soon after school began I found three invitations to rush parties so decided to take them in. At seven on Monday the gang plank was low- ered for all the rushess to Climb aboard the S. S. Delta Alpha and I dashed up before they pulled it in. Inside, the skit followed the theme of Cruise along for the year with Delta Alpha. ,Io Feldman narrated and Pat Walker, Sue Gaskill, Suzanne Swindell and other members had leading parts. Closing' the skit Camille Colquitt, dressed as Captain of the S. S. Delta Alpha, entered from the 5hip's gangfway while the entire sorority sang Delta Alpha Girl. We received a miniature life preserver as a favor and then I was off to prepare for my next visit to sorority life. I overheard the girls planning the Christmas Party way back in December, so I came around often to sample the light and dark fruit cake, cookies and candy they were preparing. Too, the club members spent several weekends at Huckleberry Hill, and a moonlight ride to Mr. and Mrs., Harvey Kreeger's, where a bar- beque supper was very much enjoyed. I had to butt a few other spectators to accomplish this, but after all, I should have a good view since my temporary living quarters would be determined by the outcome of this original show. The Juniors took the stage first. The opening scene of Atlantis showed several girls in the Smoker, who became most alarmed when an announcment was made that two Gulf Park Juniors were lost in a shipwreck. The next scene, depicted on the ocean bottom, revealed the missing girls strolling around aimlessly. Suddenly appeared Davy Jones who assured them that they would be well cared for in the fabulous under water city of Atlantis. Then Davy ushered the girls in to see the jolly King Neptune, his beautiful rnermaids and large, court. The court members greeted these two strangers by singing a welcoming song. This was followed by a dance tournament, in which the sword fish competed with one another, the winning team being presented the Goat-fish. Why this reminds me of myself and Gulf Park! Maybe that's why I enjoyed the skit so much. The pep song was sung during the tournament, and as the visitors were leaving, the strains of the Alma Mater could be heard. , 1 '-sez ig. '12 ' 1,5515-2: Q H' sf axufrfw Seniors singing their new Alma Mater SENIOR SING SONG Loyalty, love, wisdom, beauty, honor, friend- ship, these are the ideal traits that every Gulf Park girl should strive to attain. Such was the theme of the Senior Sing Song skit. Seven beautiful goddesses on high white pedestals appeared before ine. Their .irms were extended, signifying their desire to bestow their particular gifts on Gulf Park students. I listened while the old philosopher began his story of the goddesses and how they watched over all. Then before my eyes Hashes of life at Gulf Park appeared-a pep rally, a girls' own idea of knowl- edge, commencement. All were instrumental in illustrating how jane, cynical and a little bored, learned from others the ideal attitudes and aspira- tions of a girl today. The climax of the performance was the Senior alma mater From These Hollowed Halls of Gulf Park-We Your Seniors Sing! HIGH SCHOOL SING SONG Then, the High School presented its skit to try to win me. It took the audience down to the land of the devil. In Hades were the lively develettes performing there ritual dance before the 'throne of the devil queen. Quite a dance it was, too! Well, it turns out that these devil gals haven't recruited enough devils to Fill the month'5 quota .ind the queen is asking for recruiting suggestions. Finally, it is agreed that they will try to snare rome Gulf Park high school girls. After that, the scene changes and we see n new high school girl just arriving on the GPG campus. While the poor girl lugs that heavy suitcase around, this devil tries to convince her that friendship :md sportsmanship have no place in school life. Well, I arrive on the scene and save the day. I do some fast talking and the cute little girl chooses the hon- orable way. I decide that something has to be done about that devil, and I run him back to Hades. Then the high school girls sing their Alma Mater under Friendship Oak for the last time before graduation. Graduation scene from high school skit H1 1 'ef . HIIUM' TRIPS .Qi og 0 fi ll- 5 wi'- Before I end the log of my tour of Gulf Park I must tell you about the trips I took during the course of the year. Soon after school began I gathered up my Baylor Bears, pen- nant and headed for New Orleans to see two top teams fBaylor and Tu- lanej clash. It was a wonderful day, but just the beginning of my travels. In November I sought an English book to refresh my memory on the legend of Evangeline for my next venture was to the Evangeline coun- try. I learned many things and came back all enthusiastic about education by travel. It is said that at the first sign of spring you think of flowers- well, anyway I did, so to get full beneht of the work of man and nature I tagged along for the trip to Belling- rath Gardens. Ah, come to the Mardi CraseI didn't need a second invita- tion and was off to view the parades and take a peak at one of the balls. True southern hospitality is some- thing I have always marveled at and on the Natchez trip I received my share of it. The homes were out of the history books and I really enjoyed singing Dixie at the Confederate Ball. Cruising along-was the theme of my last trip-the Carribbean Cruise. Ten wonderful days in foreign lands! So you see my travels have been extensive.
