The two quotations above character- ize Hazel, for she does, on occasions, resort to tears, and she does take things slow and' easy. Hazel, how- ever, is a charming young lady, with a good disposition fwhen she isn't homesickj, and unusual con- versational powers. Her talent in dramatics cannot be overlooked, and we are sure she will some day be very successful in dramatic work. ,gf Q at we fGa Ya! Y yi Zak' I , ,xv ,Q-P' '- MM ,,,, If annum, ' .,., ,:.. There had been a golden sunset, and darkness settled over the earth very softly. I rolled into my blanket early for I was very tired, but my friend remained by the fire, lost in thought. About ten o'clock I was awakened and my attention was immedi- ately called to a brilliant glare in the east. As my friend and I watched we Could discern a mass of light which moved cautiously toward us. It appeared as a sunrise at first, but later we could distinguish separate lights and I counted forty-three, though I am not sure of the number. The radiance approached nearer and nearer, and we could soon see that the lights were torches, each carried by a different person. Some of the torches were larger than the others and almost hid the bearer from view. KIy friend touched me on the arm and said: I have never seen such a sight before, although I've seen great visions and-look! The torches are placed so that they form letters-gl U N I O R S. It seems as if I remember a prophecy that tells about something like this. Ch, yes, 'They shall bear lights with them which have never been seen by humans and can never be copied and they shall have banners of strange device I' The queer procession came within ten feet of us before we could read these banners. Upon the forehead of each torch-bearer was the sign GULF PARK, CLASS OF '24. Each individual seemed to bear her torch with pleasure, lifting it high above her head and shouting in their queer language a word which sounded very much like H-luniorsl VVe watched them until the last one passed, not lagging, but bearing her torch and stepping as bravely as the rest. Someone must be last, you know. The shouting of Ujuniorsl Juniors! at last died away and my companion and I realized that they had at last passed into seniordom, but by us these juniors would never be forgotten. The natural scenery that 415' E Gulf Park offers is ideal for an event of this kind, and that particular day was remarkably fair. The live oaks with their wide- spreading limbs made deep shadows which contrasted beautifully with the bright sunlight on the green, green grass. The sky was as their wide-spreading limbs made deep shadows which contrasted beauti- fully with the bright sunlight on the green, green grass. The sky was as blue as an Italian sky, and the sea, which made a background for the main scene, reflected the blueness of the sky. It is not to natural scenery, however, that we must give the credit for the beauty and attractiveness of lVIay Day. Miss Katherine Berry, of Dallas, Texas, was a lovely May Queen. Misses Jennie Wilkinson, liadalin Simmons, Grace Bishop, Ruth Wood, Catherine Hayden, Nina James, Julia Miller, Bennie Crum, Kathryn Whitesell, Nlary Langan, Katherine Marbury, and Cynthia Fowlkes, dressed in bright-colored or- gandies, were the flower-like maids. A real May pole dance, several folk dances and a wand drill were given to entertain the queen. None of the May Days that may follow this one will ever be able to efface from the memories of those who witnessed it, the memory of this first May Day at Gulf Park in 1922.
