GUIDED STUDIES AQUIRES NEW EQUIPMENT TO AID IN DEVELOPING STUDENT READING SKILLS Miss Alwayne McClure, chairman of the Guided Studies Division, announces the acquisition of Reading Accelerators and Controlled Readers. This new equipment is directed | toward helping students build-up vocabulary and reading comprehension. The equipment is engineered so that it can be used on an individual basis, to allow the student to control the pace of the presentation. The main objective of Guided Studies is to give each student in the program a solid background in the basic skills of reading, grammer, writing, and mathematics. The division places special emphasis on improving methods of material presentation, and adequately individualizing Guided Studies courses. 57

CHILD CARE EDUCATION UTILIZES FIVE—POINT APPROACH TO INSTRUCTION Child Care Education is now using a five-point approach to teaching, utilizing media, group discussion, student practice, and research. The new approach to teaching is based on the Division’s philosophy of “| hear and | forget, | see and | remember, | do and | understand.” The Division has established an agreement with the Leadership and Development for Child Care Division at UNC-G so that the resources of both divisions can be pooled and shared. 56

ee ee BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT CURRICULUMS USE ADVISORY COMMITTEES TO AID IN STUDENT TRAINING Each curriculum in Business Administration and Management make extensive use of advisory committees in order to keep abreast of the ever-changing job requirments of business and industry. Each curriculum has an active committee of experts in this N field. Three new instructors, Mr. Walton Thies, Mr. Frank Clamon, and Dr. Thomas Moore, joined the staff of Business Administration and Management.
