mygenealogybooks.com tO 5 yo u (THE STUDENTS) fFRom : US (THE YEARBOOK STAFF) WE O€OICATE.... WHISPERING pines 1969 Guilford Technical Institute has grown tremendously in the past 10 years and this growth is due to the interest, enthusiasm, and participation of the students. Between classes, meetings, picnics, dances, and ballgames we have grown together; we have made GTI what it is today. All this was done because someone cared — “YOU” cared — and we care enough to dedicate “YOUR” Whispering Pines, 1969, to “YOU?”’, the students, who made it all possible. “yg” Debbie Wood, EDITOR Jeanne Bunton, ASSOCIATE EDITOR Danny Brown, BUSINESS MANAGER Mr. Carl Bickers, ADVISOR Mrs. Linda Orr, ADVISOR Beverly Byerly Kathy Hedrick Rita Bentley Danny Wingard George Glass : | og gD paket Sith NM NS ee UA OE A Ss See Oe ee AME? Brown nineteen-hunoREo ano sixty-nine | ie i, As Guilford Technical Institute increases its student body, it also increases its building capacity. Construction for the Library-Classroom Building began in Fall Quarter of 1967 and was completed in the Summer of 1968. The Library-Classroom Building is composed of three floors. The library is located on the third floor. It contains more 7,000 volumes of books and a large study area. The second floor consists of the administration offices and several classrooms. The first floor has classrooms, faculty offices, and the auditorium. The pictures display the beauty of this modern building: Included are the auditiorium which seats approximately 150 people, the manual typing room, the corridor leading to the auditorium and faculty offices, a classroom equiped with tables and chairs rather than desks, our spacious contemporary library, and exterior of our most recent structure. Pride, beauty, and progress are being added to our campus everyday. The students, faculty and administration are very proud to be a part of this progress. Again we grow. On October 28, 1968, the first shovelful of dirt was turned to officially begin construction of the new Health Science Building. Above left; Dr. Medlin, Dr. Mayer, Mrs. Tillman, Wayne Trustees have a hand in turning the soil. Above right; Members of the student body view the ceremony. Center; Mrs. Tillman, of the Practical Nursing Department, and Dr. Mayer of the Dental Department display an architectural drawing of the new building. And, below: Wayne Brann competes with the construction com- pany. The new Health Science Building is expected to be completed exactly 365 days from the beginning of construction. G OOD THE DEEPEST WORTH These are the things I prize And hold of deepest worth: Light of the sapphire skies, Peace of the silent hills, Shelter of forest, comfort of the grass, Shadow of clouds that swiftly pass, And after showers The smell of flowers, and of the good brown earth, And best of all, along the way, Friendship and mirth. The presentation consisted of two one-act plays joined by a series of dramatic readings. “The Pumpkin That Couldn’t Smile” and “The Topsy-Turvy, Wiggly-Giggly, Little Falling Down Ghost” starred GTI students. The plays were written by Miss Pamela Menke, Chairman, English Department, directed by Miss Menke and Mrs. Charlotte McGlohan, and produced by Danny Brown. es ee = 3 eee ° See tage Saree pela — ees SEA EGigigy SRK. é — ee Wie, Although GTI does not have an official basketball, baseball, or football team, we still have fun watching our fellows run relays, chip the old golf ball around, swing at the volleyball and just have a good time. This is the first year that GTI has ever competed with other technical institutes in basketball. We are all very proud of our boys.
