THIRD 78 Associations Steaks, mud part of R-Club's initiation A highlight of this year's R-Club activities was a trip to see the Chicago Bulls-Atlanta Hawks basketball game last January. The club also held a bake sale and sold stadium cushions at basketball games and track meets. One of the final events of the year was the initiation, held in the spring, which featured a tug-o-war, a mud fight, and a steak-fry. Membership in R- Club, sponsored by Mr. Norman Erickson and Mr. Larry Friel, was open to all sophomore, junior varsity, and varsity letter-winners. R CLUB OFFICERS TOP TO BOTTOM: B. Sabre and Spurs members take an early morning ride. Sabre and Spurs enjoys trail rides This year's Sabre and Spurs club had a busy season. Sponsored by Nlr. Joseph Orlicki, the club held its first of many trail rides early in the fall. The club traveled to many locations including Hanson's Hideaway and White Pines State Park to ride. Though all the members didn't own horses, they had fun getting togeth- er to talk about horses. ln addition to trail rides and meetings, Sabre and Spurs spon- sored an after-game dance last fall. E f Posters and skits boost Viking spirit Throughout the year, large colorful posters proclaiming Viking superiority decorated the halls before athletic events. Members of Pep Club, who painted the posters, were also in- volved in presenting skits at pep assemblies, and generally boosting school spirit. Early in the fall the club held a slave day for the foot- ball players. Each girl was assigned to a football player as his slave for a day. Pep Club was sponsored by Mrs. Sherri Guarino.
