First, they had a hay ride and a potluck to enable members to get acquainted. To make meetings more interesting, profes- sional people were invited to speak. The group planned to donate a tape deck in its name to help furnish 151, the new student lounge. N.H.S. ended the year by inducting new mem- bers and ushering at Baccalaureate and Commencement. Each girl spent the morning in class and worked in the afternoon. In addition to regular classes, the girls received training related to their jobs in the COE class. Subjects covered were dictation, shorthand, typing and other secretarial skills. Many area business firms hired club members. They worked in retail stores, law offices, insurance firms and the Board of Education. As well as getting credit for both COE class and the job, the girls received a paycheck just like the regular em- ployees. COE was sponsored by Mrs. Linda Stinson.
