WRITING, DE AWARDSQ NIVIS LEFT: Dana Baer, '75, and Paul Dye, '73, were selected as Guilford's winners in the Rockford Womens Club's Creative Writing Contest. Dana's entry was prose, whereas PauI's was poetry. Each received a S5 award. RIGHT : Nancy Davison, '73, was chosen girl Student of the Year in Illinois at the state Distributive Education Conference in Springfield. To pre- pare for this competition, Nancy wrote a 50- page book describing what she accomplished in the past year. Later, she advanced to the national competition in Atlantic City, N.J. LOWER: Six seniors were named as finalists in the National Merit Program, which made them eligible for 551,000 scholarships. Receiving their certificates from lVlr. King are Bill Kvien, Cindy Canfield, Paul Dye, Debra Bowen, Dan Picus, and Bruce Mitchell. vw ? .

Quill And Scroll LEFT: Quill and Scroll is an honorary socie- ty which promotes progress in scholastic journalism and publications. It encourages initiative and creative writing enabling the in- dividual to contribute greater skill to his publication. Quill and Scroll recognizes and rewards the achievements of students in- volved in journalism. To be a member. students must be in the upper third of the senior class, have contributed signifigantly to the school's publications, and be elected by members of the publications staff. For the first time the chapter will be an active organi- zation this year, Quill and Scroll had an initia- tion ceremony and sponsored several activities. Top Twenty ABOVE: The top twenty seniors were chosen on scholastic standing achieved during the past four years. The traditional top ten boys and top ten girls honor changed this year after upperclassmen evaluated this system. A survey by Student Council revealed students felt that regardless of sex, the top twenty indi- viduals should be honored. Seated from left to right are Margo Wylie. Linda Weingartner.
