Initiated in 1954 by General Mills, the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow Award is de- signed to emphasize the importance of homemaking as a career. Having received the highest score on a written homemaking examination at Guilford, Bonnie Peter- son had her test paper judged further for education- al grants at the state and local levels. Cited for their creative writing abilities and artis- tic expression, the Creative Writing Contest Winners attended a luncheon and presentation of monetary awards during the March Women's Club program. This year's DAR award at Guilford was presented to senior, jean ' Competition Creates Based on dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism, the DAR Good Citizen Award is granted to one senior girl every year in each of the senior high schools of the nation. This year's recipient of the award from Guilford was Jeanine Strommen. Jeanine was selected by a faculty committee from three finalists chosen by a vote of the senior home- rooms. The other two finalists were Sheri Freeberg and Becky Nyboer. Speech, a time-consuming activity, demands re- sponsibility and leadership ability and offers re- wards in competitive debate and district speech con- tests.

Early in April, seniors balloted for their choice. Votes were then tabulated by Mrs. Helen Thorsen, and the results were announced in the Voyager.
