The goals of the club are to support, encourage and pub- licize events pertaining to any of the club's three interests, and to increase its members' knowledge of all aspects of the communica- tion arts. To fulfill this second goal, the club hosted both guest speakers and school par- ticipants in special programs aligned to the interests of its members. DEBATE - Front Row: Mrs. B. Garmager, Brown a ABL Travels to iddler on the Roof Encouraging appreciation of lit- erature, Les Admiratrices de Belles Lettres is an honorary English so- ciety for junior girls who receive an A semester gradein English and senior girls who receive an A or B. This year a guest speaker was featured at each ABL meeting. Mr. Phillip Diedrich from Rockford Col- lege spoke on the topic Op and Pop Art, and Mr. Norman Kierney from Rock Valley College discussed a Russian novel with the group. Christmas activities included the sale of Christmas corsages, anew money raising project this year, and a par- ty with East High School. The highlight of the year for ABL was a trip into Chicago to view the dramatic performance, Porgy and Bess. ABL also sponsored the an- nual carnation sale for May Day. ii ,, ., .y , .,y.. Linden, B. Engstrom, G. Rickard, Pres 3 Mr. Durham, Advisor. The National Forensic League is an honor society made up of the people who are active in speech and de- bate contests. The greatest value of mem- bership in the National For- ensic League is the encourage- ment and incentive it gives you to become an effective speaker. The National Forensic League of Guilford is sponsor- ing a debate tournament in March at Guilford. We hope this will become an annual af- fair. This year's officers are: Ran- dy Thompson, President, Bruce G a sto n, Vice-President, and Margorie Eisenach, Secretary- Treasurer. for Perfection The National Thespian So- ciety, an honorary drama so- ciety, is a newly formed or- ganization at Guilford High School. The society states it is devoted to the advancement of dramatic arts in the secon- dary schools. At present, the only other Rockford high school belonging to the society is West High School. The name Thespian is de- rived from Thespes, a Greek poet of the sixth century B.C., who is believed to have found- ed the drama. Thespians or actors was adopted in his honor. i A .
