There are probably many students who come to Guil- ford College and leave without meeting Treva Mathis. There are others who recognize her as the lady who works in the Quaker Room. And there are the truly for- tunate ones who have had the pleasure of knowing her. Actually, the lady in the Quaker Room has been much more than that for Guilford College. Until her semi-retirement in June, 1978, she was the associate li- brary director, in charge of acquisitions, cataloging and serials binding, in addition to her position as curator of the Quaker Collection. Treva has been with the Guilford College library since 1950. Her work has been a part of almost every Guil- ford student ' s Hfe. Her work is also important to North Carohna Friends, and to Friends everywhere. This book takes a look at Guilford ' s past, as well as its present. Treva Mathis has been a loving caretaker of Guilford ' s past. For tliis, and for much more, she re- ceives this dedication.
