Nixon greets supporters in Greensbon Edgar gets a new perspective on campus life. Josh White seems to Give a Damn about his performance. Events M-M-M-M! Good! This year provided a variety of entertaining aspects which supplemented the daily routine of studies. Under the joint sponsorship of the College Art Series, College Union, the Revelers ' Club, the Convocation committee, the symposium committee, and individual departments, activities encompassing diverse interests were presented. The year began with Freshmen Orientation which fea- tured the Royal Guardsmen. Homecoming was next with its dance, luau, bonfire, and concert by Jay and the Americans. Parents week-end featured the Pozo-Seco Singers. Throughout the year the Revelers ' Club has pre- sented a number of enjoyable productions. Numerous movies have entertained many of the students. The symposium was again a success. Memories will remain from a fabulous Junior-Senior Prom, May Day was high- lighted by Charlie Byrd. The calendar of Events seemed to hold an enjoyable year for all Guilfordians. Food for thought. Pat and Merikay talk with Billy Graham ' s daughter during the Nixon rally at the coliseum. On a Snowy Day , an original Christmas play by Pat Gilbreath, and a party in the Union Lounge were enjoyed by all as the spirit of Christmas gained new meaning. There really is a man at the top of the world. A completely unique experience a captivated class. Homecoming— 68 Anticipation, excitement, hard work, and clear skies combined to produce a memorable weekend for students and alumni. Festivities began on Friday night with a luau, movie and midnight bonfire, and continued throughout the night for many as last- minute touches were added to floats and dorm decorations. A clear and icy Sat urday was the setting for a clash with the Blue Hose of Pres byterian, and a truely memorable crowning ceremony. That evening the sound of the Impacts was re ceived by an enthusiastic audience with plenty of high spirits. Jay and the Americans in concert Sun- day were considered the high point and a fitting close to a week- end that began and ended as an event to be long remembered. ' ■-.Kit ' - . ■-? • ' By education we ought to under- stand whatever has a tendency to in- vigorate the intellect, to train the mind to thought and reflection, to mould aright the affections of the heart, and to confirm us in the prac- tice of virtue. 1848 Board of Trustees For a while, it will be hard on us as administrators. Some students are going to be wrong, and some people will want to deny them the right to make mistakes. Administrators will hav e to wade through the angry let- ters, and colleges wHI lose some do- nations. . . But let us stand up for our students and be proud of them. If America is still on the way up, it will welcome this new, impatient, critical crop of young gadflies. It will be fear- ful only of the complacent and passive. Governor Edmund G. Herein, on these pages, the 1969 QUAKER has attempted to capture the significance of one of these yesterdays. Portions of it are already dated. Ten years from now, its viewers will marvel at how outdated and different the scene pictured is. The QUAKER hopes that this book will hold something unique and individual for each person who views it. Stopping now to see that here is the ledge between the past and the years to come is the opportunity of all who pause to read the QUAKER pages. The Staff 1969 QUAKER
