Term Paper Trauma I can't find a book on the Spanish Armandaf' Do you have magazines on George Orwell? I need a biography of Da Vinci. From October to June, the school library is crowd- ed with students enthusiastically searching for books on a variety of topics. Even SUNYA gets an influx of GCHS students who do term paper research in the college library and eat in the college cafeteria. Students have different reactions to writing term papers. One student remarked, I didn't get much from it. Another said, I can see writing a term paper, but when teachers don't give them back it isn't fair. Believe it or not, a few students fine term pa- pers fun, a challenge. A couple of students claim to X have made it to their senior year without ever writing a term paper, but most students do write their term papers, though reluctantly in some cases. The break from this comes with labs. ln science classes, every sixth day the students work on their own or in pairs dissecting frogs or cats, examining plant leaves, or combining chemicals to obtain some rather interesting results, For many students, lab day provides a welcome change to the regular classroom learning process, and gives everyone a chance to experiment on the things taught in formal classes. 561' Usb' YITT19 -qv-r ' 3 V512 ll 1 l -1 X . What l like about GCHS is that l can be involved in many sports. l also like my free mods which gives me time to be with my friends. lam happy that l came to the US. because l have had the opportunity to live in a different culture. l will never forget this wonderful experience. Hello, the people call me Boria, so that's my name. l'm a foreign exchange student from Spain. l was born in the north of Spain, Guipuzcoa, but l live in Madrid. The idea to come here wasn't mineg my parents looked for an organiza- tion, and they found SUNFLOWERS. Sunflowers is the Spanish representative of A.l.S.E., American lntercultural Students Exchange. I'm going to be here for one year, since the fifteenth of August to the fifth of July 1985. l'm enjoying America, l thought that it would be different, because the idea that the European people have about America is that which the movies show usg the violence, the big cities, etc .... But anyway, l was in Chicago five years ago, sol had a little idea of what this would be like. l also like the American people, they are usually friendly, and they help you in all that they can, if they can. One thing that impresses me is the schoolg it is bigger than mine in Spain, and the gyms are in better condition than the gyms in Spain. Another thing that impresses me is the sports, they practice every day. In Spain, they don? can very much about high school sports. So I Like America!!! Q 5 'R i 5 . .-:v, -is ' 126 . , ' Nix Q or F 'x Qi 5.5 f .r kj Hi, l'm Miguel Hervas, from Spain. l'm here as an effchange student for my senior year. l came to Guilderland High through my organization, OPEN DOOR. Besides fSfUdying inl this country, l've also studied in France, England and Germany. From all the schools l've been to, G-CHS is the biggest and the one which offers more choices and opportunities to the students. l'm very happy to have been able to come to this school and to this country. lt's something l think is worthwhile doing because you learn a lot of things about the people, their culture and their language. l wish luck to the class of '85. Miguel Hi, my name is Nick Garemo and l'm from Gothenburg. Sweden. However, during recent years l have actually spent more time abroad than in my own country, due to the fact that my parents worked in Sri Lanka for four years. During my stay there l attended a school with no more than fifty students enrolled. l do enjoy traveling to and living in foreign countries and that's the main reason why l chose to spend a year here in Guilderland, a choice l haveri't regretted for a second. There are a few very significant differences between the schools l've been enrolled in previously and GCHS. The size, for one thing, is different. The school l went to in Sweden last year had, as a comparison. only 500 students enrolled and the one in Sri Lanka. as l mentioned before. even less. Furthermore, they don't promote sports and there isn't any intramural sports program. CCHS also offers more courses than the average school in Sweden My going to GCHS has been a very pleasant experience and spending some time in a foreign country is something l think everybody should try. 2 fi., -4. Led by the hitting of junior Chris Leupold and seniors Steve Wisniewski and Greg Peck, and the pitching of senior Tom Carr and junior Alex Jefferson, the squad always battled to the end against the best of the Suburban Council. The efforts uid leadership of Coach Nicholas drove the t.eam to keep the opposingtearrson their toes and in constant suspense. The team, though their record migli not indicate, played tight, competitive ball throughout the entire sewon. The season also included the development of underclassmen Tony Perrino, Tm Esposito, and Joe Center, who will be back next year alorgwithllupoldlld Jefferson to build that driving force. From that point on we played great football tying Shenen- dehowa 20-20 and finishing the season 4-4-1. The young men on this team have the potential to be Suburban Council champs it they work hard and continue to improve. The group was enjoyable to work with and they never quit.
