We may not have thought much about them then, but now we think of those days as our very best ones. This book contains a great number of those days. Turn the pages ever so slowly and recapture a part of our youth which will never be forgotten; the year 1975-1976! Typing Typing 2nd Hour Drama The purpose of studying drama is to improve all aspects of speech: communication, bodily response, spiritual understanding, social adjustment in class, and especially the enjoy- ment of the printed play. Drama today is a vital force in the education of special-interest students. Speech Speech is not only the study of our language, but also of communica- tion. It enables our students to better understand our world and its many different cultures. At Gueydan High School, we are proud to have so many students involved in this process. Speech Sixth Hour Coach Hampton and the new car. Driver’s Education is a preparation course for the beginning drivers of Gueydan High. If a person does not have mastery of his native tongue, he will be limited in his ability to communicate with others. The ability to communicate, both written and orally, may mean the difference in being a success or failure in life. He is concerned with mak- ing school a meaningful experience for every student by pro- viding an environment in which the student finds greater self-understanding and self-direction. It is his job to help each student reach a maximum growth in life. Mrs. Debra Meaux French Gueydan High is doing its part to prepare her stu- dents t'o meet the challenge of living in a world where bilingualism is a must. The seventy-eight students here who are studying French will have a better understanding of other French-speaking peoples and their ways of life. They will pave new roads to better understanding between our nation and theirs. Miss Florienne LeBlanc Codofil Canadienne French I Sixth Hour Physical Education Physical Education is a very important pan of our education. It is designed to promote the physical, mental, and social growth of the stu- dent through participation in fitness programs and the various sports. The student also learns the meaning of good sportsmanship and to enjoy team activities. Instructions in hygiene and the care of the body are taught to the student. Coach would you give them the ball? Our freshman year seemed different in many ways, but it was a beginning — a chance to meet people, to start an athletic career, and to grow as individuals. It was our time now to enjoy the maturity shared only by our peers. Who can't remember looking up to the seniors and wishing to have their nonchalant attitude? The dominant idea that sticks in our memories is the spirit shared by everyone: the Friday night football games, the out-of-town rivals, bonfires, our class trip to Astroworld and all the cake sales. A summer of change passed in 1971 and brought with it the non-confor- mists, peacemarchers, draft dodgers and walkouts. Our sophomore days of being involved and getting our feet wet began in this restless year. It seemed difficult for many of us to behave as sophomores, but we knew we would adjust to these changes. One thing we had to remember — change is always needed. And yet, though we were only 16, the 18 year old vote would soon be power in our hand. In 2 years it would be our chance to get involved and help form a new society. Hopefully, the wait would pass quickly. 214 We left much but now in our junior year we had the opportunity to establish the traditions which belonged to the class of '76. While a Dr. Pepper with cher- ries wasn't exactly a financial bonanza, our class barbeque was. Our award winning Homecoming float, It's in the Cards, and our prom A Night Among the Tulips, made that year seem completely successful. Arguments, glares, and bickering among classmates ended as we all realized that only one year was left for each other. We had a closeness now. It began with a Sadie Hawkins dance, raffles, yearbook, and just good times for everyone. Yes, it's our senior year — the time many begin losing interest, direction, and ideals. Now we begin to think of independence, new faces, and challenges which will shape our tomorrows. We have wondered at numerous social and historical events. But more fondly, we will remember May 17th, 1976. Now let us work to achieve dreams, contemplate opportunities, and begin from this day! Mrs. Jane Broussard Our Special Friend There is a special person. Who is different in many ways. Her thoughts were always helpful. She brightened all our days. She was there when we needed. Both happy times and sad. She was whom we turned to. In more good times than bad. Yes, she is a beautiful person. And the years would not have been the same, Without her warm smile and thoughts. We'll remember you always, Mrs. Jane. 216 Seniors of '76 At this time, we, the Seniors of 1976, would like to express our appreci- ation to our friends of the yearbook. Mrs. Birdie Guidry, Mrs. Nita Hun- gerford, and Mrs. Meceal Smith were helpful and concerned with the publishing of our yearbook. Once again, we would like to extend a sincere 'THANK YOU to our friends. Seniors of '76 - 217 JOHN J. MARTIN, JR., President STANLEY F. BREAUX, Executive Vice Pres. J. C.
