The Bruin 1974 Published Annually by The Seniors of Gueydan High School Gueydan, Louisiana Volume 21 Foreword M 2 As we open the 1974 Bruin, we, the Bruin staff, realize that it is not just a yearbook; it is also a memory book of captured moments, occa- sions, and thoughts. It is really wonderful that we can express ourselves thusly in a book — for all to enjoy. One's senior year is the most signifi- cant. It is for some their very last year of formal education,■and for those going on to higher studies, it is a year for maturing, preparing, and making important decisions. Although this year has had its disap- pointments along with its joys, we claim it to be the best because it was ours. As we look at the pictures on these pages, let us keep in mind that many of them were taken in or around our gymnasium as had been the tradition for the past fifteen years. However, due to our tragic mishap, these pictures will be the very last taken in this familiar setting. Benoit Dedication When we recall highlights of our high school days, one teacher comes to mind — one to whom we owe some of our greater accomplishments. She is dedicated', under- standingr„ and works hard. Because of her interest, her classes have been enjoyable. Her incomparable influence remains etched on our minds. We, the Bruin staff, wish to honor and dedicate our 1974 Bruin to Mrs. Juanita B. Benoit, teacher and librarian. And G.H.S. has what it takes. And then some GI PiDAX HKiH FOOTBALL TONIGHT Science Our school gives us the choice of four different sciences to help us ob- tain a practical knowledge of the scientific world around us. They are Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and General Science. Because of this country's growing prosperity, businesses are developing very rapidly to supply service and merchandise for the growing popu- lation. Therefore, commerce in high school is very important for those who plan to enter into the business world. In life one of the most im- portant and fascinating field of studies a person will use is Mathematics for without it there would be no understand- ing of natural or scientific phenomena. Mathematics English There is a definite need in society today to communicate with each other. To make our thoughts clear to others, and to understand them, English is a necessary course of study in our school. Physical Education Home Economics Home Economics helps to pre- pare girls for the present as well as the future. It also helps them to become a better person. It pro- vides training in sewing, cooking, child and infant care, consumer education, home furnishings, mar- riage preparation, etc. Agriculture Mr. Joseph A. Touchet Department Head Industrial Arts Agriculture and Industrial Arts are two fine examples of the vocational courses that are offered in our school. Both of these courses promote within the student an interest in such fields as farming, forestry, and Industrial Arts, Carpentry. Both of these departments are great assets to our school. Mr. Shelton Breaux Department Head 27 Art The art program is organized to provide challenging opportunities for students to express themselves creatively. French Students are learning French today because it developes individuals personally and intellectu- ally. As the adults of tomorrow, we feel that the study of our heritage will help us to be better people. 31 Guidance Guidance is an integral part of the educational program and its services are organized to give continuous service to each student in knowing himself as an individual. 32 Speech Speech is the art of communi- cation in oral reading, public speak- ing, choral reading, interpretation oratory, drama, stage make-up,etc. Girls' Chorus BOTTOM ROW: Janet Guidry: Martha Marceaux; Dolores Mouton; Cathy Clark; Judy Broussard; Lena Benoit; Carla Tra- han; Sheilia Clark; Joycelyn Wallace.
