1973 THE BRUIN Gueydan High School Gueydan, Louisiana Published Annually by The Seniors Volume 20 Foreword 2 As we, the students, look upon the scene above, we see many different faces: smiling faces, anxious faces, bored and preoccupied faces — yet all these faces reflect the same thing — the student body of Gueydan High School. In compiling this yearbook, we, the Bruin Staff, have had one purpose in mind — to present pictorially our lives here at G.H.S. during the school year 1972-73. If, by thumbing through this yearbook, we can place ourselves into a scene, recall a reaction, or enjoy an accomplishment, we will have succeeded in our attempt. If the actions of students, teachers and administrators are correctly pictured through our work, we have achieved our goal. Guidry The Bruin annual staff takes pride in dedicating the 1973 Bruin Yearbook to a Junior High teacher whom we all know and admire very much. Enthusiastic support of French, as well as a genuine appreciation of home and family, are qualities reflected in her unique personality. Until her health restricted her attendance at school, she was always here lending her spirited support to young people. Stu- dents who have known her as their teacher — be it in Junior High or in French I realize that she has given them something irreplaceable: friendship and a sense of responsibility, hard- work, and discipline. We, the Bruin Staff, dedicate our 1973 Bruin to Mrs. Frances D. Guidry. 13 • - __________________________ .'A A Vft f .vl . ftv« % % - % . 16 Literature Business Since many students end their formal education with high school. Commerce is concerned with devel- oping marketable skills, abilities, understandings and work habits to enable one to secure and hold a job in his chosen occupation. Health and Physical Ed. Emphasis is placed on good personal, family, and community health and on participation in wholesome recreation on an individual and group basis. A well-rounded program is adapted to individual needs of every student. Speech 24 Speech Speech in Action Speaking Interpretation Choral Reading Discussion Parliamentary Procedure Story-telling Drama Costuming and Make-up Casting plays Because we are dependent on science for the comforts of our homes, for news from without our country, and for the defense of our nation, science influences all aspects of living and is continuous and increasing. Science Science The instructional program in Vocational Ag- riculture provides training for production agri- culture and or present emerging occupations in the many phases of business and industry related to agriculture. 28 Music Music attempts to influence and regulate the thoughts and actions of people. The girls' chorus provides an opportunity to sing choral music suit- ed to needs and interests. 30 31 32 Social Studies The school plays a major role in preserving anu extending our democratic way of life. The social studies present an ideal setting for learning experi- ences needed for understanding the privileges and responsibilities of American citizenship. Industrial Arts Industrial arts assist students to understand the in- dustrial and technical aspect of life. Students learn about wood, metals, and other materials. They also learn about electricity, welding, motors, machines, structures of interest and concern to all people at home and or at work. i it Guidance Guidance assists students in mak- ing maximum use of their abilities for their own benefit and that of so- ciety. An effective program is continuous. Home Economics provides education for the responsibilities involved in homemaking and effective family living - child care, clothing and textiles, food and nutrition, home nursing, consumer problems, etc. Je fais serment au drapeau des Etats Unis de l'Amerique et a la republique qu'il represente, une nation consacre a Dieu, indivisible, avec liberte et justice pour tous. Le Francais 40 French The fact that countries of the world are being brought closer together by more rapid means of travel and communication is the main factor for increased need and interest in foreign language. The study of French is especially important to us with a bilingual background because it develops individuals personally and intellectually.
