Hong Kong lies on the China coast, 91 miles southeast of Canton, and has access to the Pacific. The Crown colony is administered by a governor, aided by an Executive Council and a Legislative Council: the latter comprises Europeans, Chinese, and Indians. The colony's location, deep -water sheltered harbor, abundant labor supply, and free -port economy have made it an important center of trade, commerce, and industry. The textile industry has become the largest single manufacturing activity, but there is other light and heavy jndusny' and figbing is important.
