' 64504 GUADALLZPE began her 1967 odyssey on 11 March 1967. Upon her departure from Long Beach. she made a non-stop transit to Subic Bay, R.P., the main base of operations for Navy ships in Southeast As1a.The ship got her first taste of action when she serviced HMAS HOBARTKD-391. FU? .4USffUl1CW hgh! C lU5f?f' llfsf prior to arrival in Subic Bay. The first unrep set the tone for the entire deployment, as GUADALUPE was to find herself operating it ith ships from other nations and entering a uide variety of foreign ports time and again throughout the cruise. Follou-ing a short upkeep period in Subic Bay. GUADALUPE began Yankee Team operations as she re- plenished USS TICONDEROGA lCX'A-141 in the Tonkin Gulf. After her first trip to station, the ship u-ent north for ten days of upkeep in Sasebo. japan. Operations began in earnest touiards the end of April uhen GUADALUPE resumed support operations off the coast of Vietnam. In a little more than thirty days GUADALUPE serviced 97 ships during three separate trips through Market Time. On 19 May the ship spent three days in Kaohsiung, Taiu-an u,-hile taking on fuel for another trip to station. On 7 june the ship arrived in Singapore for a six day stay. As not all ships are able to see Singapore, the visit meant a great deal, and thanks to the British and their delightful hospitality it was to remain one of high points of the entire cruise. Upon departure from Singapore GUADALUPE replenished the carrier USS INTREPID FCVS-111 which nas on her way to Subic Bay from the Atlantic Coast. This was the second year z'n a rozv that GUADALUPE was the first oiler to u-elcome INTREPID to WestPac. After another Market Time trip GUADALUPE took part in a large SEATO maritime exercise called Sea Dog . The exercise involved ships from the Philippines, Australia, Thailand, New Zealand and the United States, and lasted for approximately three u-eeks. The main emphasis was on anti-submarine uarfare as submarines from Australia and the United States tried to penetrate a screen of ships guarding the convoy as it moved from Manila to Bang Saen near Bangkok in Thailand. Upon completion of the exercise the ship spent four days anchored off Bang Saen, and the crew uias able to get a brief, but unforgettable, taste of the city of Bangkok. On 16 August GUADALUPE bid fareuell to Market Time and began her trip home via along circuitous route. The ship spent five days in Hong Kong from 22 - 26 August before heading towards Sasebo, japan for a tufo ueek inport stay. Even though GUADALUPE had completed her ma1'n mission in WestPac, there was still much uork to be done on the ship itself, and uhile everyone enjoyed Sasebo, it was also a time for serious maintenance and upkeep. Tb? SMP dfpnfwfl 5050120 on 15 September, stopped in Yokosuka for tzto days, and on 19 September departed for Pearl Harbor. While enroute to Pearl Harbor the ship successfully avoided two typhgons and provided services to four destroyers also returning from duty in Westpac, On 9 October GUADALUPE arrived in Long Beach, California to end her 1967 deploymgm
