But to us, the graduating class, Grundy County High is more than a beautiful building. It is a second homeg and as a home, we fine it hard to gleave. It is the symbol of many happy hours, of many i s i glorious opportunities, of a host of cheerful friends. Activities once regarded as too exacting, now ap- pear on the screen of our memory as pleasant duties, long, boresome class periods fade into fleeting mo- ments of real worthwhile living, and the once serious- fminded unsympathetic teachers are remembered new as i s 5 i 6 P sincere Iriends. How can we ever forget or cease to love Grundy County High? Within these walls we have spent four happy years. Here we have worked, played, laughed, loafed, cried and grumbled some, but the good times, the pleasant memories, out number, by far, the un- pleasant ones. We have formed, within these walls, friendships which will last through out our life time, and in the future when a name is spoken, we shall be heard to remark, nl was in school with her.n ' During those periods in our future when we tire of real life, we shall send our thoughts racing back to scenes of our high school days, and for a brief mo- lment recall with delight the noises of creaking lock- I x x 1 ers and books thrown carelessly in, of loud voices in the halls, of the patter of feet on the stairs or of the hilarious yells of fans at our ball games. To paraphrase the poet we say, nHow dear to our hearts are the scenes of our school days When fond reccolections present them to 5 View, The building, the campus, the once-dreaded lessons And every friend here, which we new bid adieu.n PURE ORD Ne, the Seniors, have endeavored to mike this volf ume of Ere Qountlin L3u3cl.u mirror reflectinm vividly the various phases of life at Grundy County Hiqh dur- ing the school year l9e5-46. Eve- eryone had different ideas about school, and before the year was gone many had dropped out. We were well repre- sented in the various clubs, and several of the stu- dents proved to be very intellectual by becoming mem- .L.'l bers of the Beta Club. For class officers, uH6 follow- ing were chosen: Doris Anderson, Presidentg James Gols- ton, Vice-Prcsidcntg Dixie Wiggins, Secretaryzmd Treas- urer. Liss Yarber was chosen sponsor. ' f -exmmawwmllll ' Wamwlswmiaium M CLASS PROPHECY As I, Ruth Meeks, was walking through the woods one day, not thinking of anything in particular I found myself lost in the depths of a dense forest. Evening was coming on, and I knew that I must try to find my way out of the forest. As I was wandering be- neath the overhanging limbs of the trees, I spied a queer looking old woman. Ky memory of fairy tales led me to believe that she was a supernatural being. I soon learned that she was a fortune teller. In a strange way, she invited me to go inside the hut. I told her that I was expecting to graduate from Grundy County High School on May l6. I asked her to tell me what my classmates would be doing twenty years hence. The aged lady gazed into her crystal ball for some time. She looked surprised. niyl What a prominent group I see hefore me,u she said. NI see Raymond Hargis as President of the United States. his chief advisor is A.J. Layne. June Tate and Ophelia Taylor own a pigeon farm jointly. Betty Jeanne Kennedy and Charles Cunningham are new married and living happily in a beautiful home in Houston, Texas. Ulf you care to know, Bessie Eldridge is with the Bingley Brothers Show doing marvelous acts on a trapeze. L. D. Sartain is taking Frank Sinatra's place. Sue Holloway has become a 'noted pianist.n After gazing into the magic ball for a prolonged time, she said, HHarold Jones is the high sheriff of Grundy County. The ball shows plainly that Den Paris is a dentist in Chattanooga. Well, imagine this Clarence Kilgore and Dorothy Vail are ballet dancers, Franklin Rust is a dress designer for the Vogue and Carleyn Anderson is a laboratory technician. Fred White is trying to find a way to get an education without studying.n wwwslnfsinitlifimml' ' . ,rm1Lm'ava5L3q:sEam. The mysterious lady pondered, moved away, and tried again, but it was hopless. All that she could see for Harguerite Roddy was that she would be an old maid school teacher taking Kiss Lacy's place. A happy look spread ever the old l1dy's face. She turned to me and said, UI see that Buck Sanders has answered the call to the ministry. Billie Ruth Jacobs is a mission- ary to foreign lands. Iarie HcCarver is a taxi driver at Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Ruth Hyers has become a well-known dranatics ceach.n I It was hard for me to believe, but she said that the magic ball shows plainly James Totherow and Bill Gunn fighting prohibition in every possible way, and gBeulah Mae Nester is a librarian.. Sara Leu Bouldin .and Mary R. Stinnett are personal shoppers for Marsh- :all Field Department Store of Chicago. Veda Mae Con- :dra and Jo Ann Gunn are nurses in Leon Northcut's San- Qitarium. f The old lady rested a few minutes, then continued her gazing. nJoe Vernon Creighton is an lnglish pro- :fessor at Purdue. Iac Wanda Braseel is writing pop- 'ular sengs.H She notioned as though she would dismiss me, but I exclaimed, nLady, surely there is more to Qseel Nhat about the other members of the classin ' So after gazing again, she resumed her weletter. How it thrilled me to know that in the future there would be a new gymnasium, a new stadium, and the field xmas flood-lighted. There was an inside swimming pool. I could hardly believe my eyes. Nareie Mae Brazile was the swimming instructor, and Betty Sue Meeks and Leone ard Suter were the coaches for Grundy. I saw myself walking across the beautiful, well-kept campus. I was meeting the former Elouise Henley and Katherine Almany who had decided to leave school before graduation in order to get that Irs. Degree. Many things had hap- pened for the betterment of the school since I had graduated. The woman and I looked into the ball again.EverMh 1g seemed to grew very dim but after all I had seen mxmgm I had learned the future of my classmates, and ,I was well pleased with their accomplishments. Thanking the old lady for all the information and bidding her a ver- y pleasant good-night, I hastily made my way out of the forest. It was getting late, and I suddenly thought a- bout all the lessons I must prepare for the next day. One by one, pu- pils droppcd out until only ninety finished the first year. We found our Freshman year enjoyable and event- ful. Uith Nr. Schild as our sponsor, we participated in all activities and some became members of the Beta Club. When the first of September, l944, camo, we, be- ing ngreen Freshmenn no longer, proudly entered Vthe portals of our beloved Alma Mater once more. We en- tered with a new detenaination to do our best, to both give and receive from our school to the fullest extent Mrs. Ray was our sponsor and helped us win the maga- zine contest. .Ne completed the year with 3110.00 for our treasury. . August of 1945 found us at the half-way mark in our high school education. Holding fast to our tra- dition, we were active in many different fields of en- deavor. We chose as our class officers: Preston Can- non, presidentg Billy Foutch Metcalfe, vice-president, Clay Fults, secretaryg Vary Jo Fults, treasurer, Herby Thorpe, reporter, Genie Rollings and Frances Kilby, class historians. le 'vvi chose Mrs. Ray as sponsor and we are indeed very grateful to her for the splendid way in which she has worked with us, Among the important events directed and sponsored by our class was the coronation of the football queen. This was the climax- ing feature of Stunt Night. The most important event of our Junior year was the entertainment of the Senior Class. In two school buses we journeyed to Nashville where we visited Berry Field, the Hermitage, the War Memorial Museum, and the Parthenon. The afternoon was spent by some at the football game and others at the theaters. A late hour saw us, a tired,' happy group, journey homeward. Our total ,income for the year was Ql746.88, of which we voted Ql500.00 to be spent on lighting our football field. As we near the end of this, our third year, we realize we have only one nero year in which to enjoy the privileges of Grundy County High School. M .uflzr lamina f XX . It surely was fun, and an addition to our feeling of importance when we were able to take part .in fthe initiation of the freshmen. We felt as though we were being recompensed for our being seduced to the rigora ous procedures of last year's initiation. As a class, we feel that we have accomplished many Worth while things during our two years at Grundy High This year we boast of being the first sophomore class ever to elect a football queen. Billy Faye London, the queen, was crowned with a beautiful ceremony at the stunt night performance. Although we won neither the book nor the magazine contest, we were stiff com- petitors and second only to the Freshman Class in both of these contests. We have members in all of the clubs and are espo- cially proud of several members of the Beta Club and the National Forensic League. Our chief regret is that several members of our class have already dropped out. In fact, two from our midst decided to take the nfatal stepn for nbotter or worse,n Ue hope it proves to be the former. Finally we would express our gratitude to all who are making it possible for us to attend Grundy County High School. We have enjoyed our sophomore year and n .. .v 1 ' ' .. , are eagerly looking forwa1d to our Junior year. Hrs. George Sitz, who is new president of the association, has served in this capacity fif- teen ggars out of the past twen- ty. ring the five years that the was not president, she serv ed as chairman of various com- mittees and was always busy on projects and present at the meetings giving inspiration and helpful advice. Under the wise leadership of Mrs. Sits, the P.T.1 has yearly served the high school in every possible capacity. Throughout the depression years, Mrs. Sits was alyays at the helm, guiding the association in projects that would net a little profit so badly need ed to equip classrooms with maps, globes, books, etc. Since the beginning of World War 11, big some have been realized, and, as a result, the P. .A. has been ble to purchase curtains for the auditorium, costing 36784901 chairs for the library amounting to 55l8.00, eQu1g:: t ter the lunch room, and a water heater for th can sgeet economics department. M , l .In addition to its financial aid, the P.T.A. has willingly prepared banquets for the various clubs or the school. n Without the moral, educational, and financial support of the F.T.4.,+the high school could scarcely prosper. So, with a deep and a sincere gratitude, we say to Hrs.
