When we drew the name of green freshmen our class was uncreased by twenty sux rural students Now we carrued only four subjects and many members entered hugh shool band and vocal groups The class was duvuded unto two duvusuons 9 l and 9 ll Thus year we helped present the Bandanna Muns trel Show Bull K Max Ruchard and erry were the darky endmen and Kathryn accom panued the show Many other class members composed the chorus and band A Junuor hugh paper unuor Hugh Lughts was publushed thus year by several of our class members The gurls took homemakung and the boys manual arts the subjects they had looked forward to for many years Mr Behrens who took puc tures of our smulung faces all through Junuor hugh took hus last ones thus year Many of the boys served theur last year on the unuor Safe ty Patrol Now everyone was ready to shed som of our youthful habuts such as havung annual class pucnucs and move up to hugher learnung However when the tlme to move came manv a backward glance was guven the grade buuld ung whuch held so many memones for us On arruval un the senuor hugh buuldung un the thurd act we sophomores the underclassmen watched wuth awe and respect the superuoruty of our older fruends The new buuldung greatly umpressed us but gradually we futted unto the pattern of hugh school lufe Our class was duvud ed unto two homerooms wuth Muss Sue Dodd and Mrs Lous Bokholt as sponsors We kept thus arrangement for the remaunder of our school days We were now ready to cover the last lap of our journey to the top of the tradu tuonal educatuonal ladder Now we passed up and dow'u staurs to classes studued un the well equupped lubrary and began to be more on our own Although we had more work to do our socual program was greatly uncreased Our long cherushed dream funally came truel We were allowed to attend the Homecomung Dance followung the game the clumax of the football season Our class decorated the goal posts as uts share un the bug event How the gurls dud plan beforehand what they would wear for the umportant occasuon ln addutuon to thus party we were uncluded un all the hugh school partues sponsored by the dufferent class es We enthusuastucally made our debut wuth a dress up party Also thus year some of our members were pemuutted to work at the junuor senuor prom Two from our class Manlyn F and Rose Marue B of the saxophone quartet traveled to St oseph Mussouru for the Natuonal Musuc Contest The marchung band went to Des Mounes to march un the bug Hawkeye Holu day parade and many of our class members were able to enyoy thus trup Dunng thus year the students chose be tween a commercual or college entrance course Some of the classes were new and dufferent Remember how shaky each of us was when we got up to guve our furst speech before the class? New actuvutues such as News Staff Scuence Club and GAA were entered by many students One day was spent un havung X ray puc tures of our lungs taken by the lowa Tubercul losus Assocuatuon One of our members Rose Mane B was a cheerleader and some of the boys made varuous senuor hugh athletuc teams ln the second scene the class has gradu ated unto junuor class Thus proved to be one of our busuest years On November I8 we pre sented our class play Playboy of the West tern World One of our largest projects was to earn money through our bug sellung cam paugn at athletuc events Teresa was the able head of the funance commuttee All the stu dents putched un to do theur part un sellung candy pop apples etc Thus year Muss Sue Dodds homeroom was the proud wunner of the School Spurut trophy for four sux weeks peruods The bug socual event of the year was the prom whuch many of the students on the execu tuve commuttee zealously planned Many a mornung these twelve students and the class sponsors could be seen huddled around a lu brary table arguung about the theme and plan nung the decoratuons refreshments and the untermussuon programs The bug nught funally camel The gym was beautufully decorated carryung out the Maytume Souree theme gurls swept about un gorgeous formals and soft musuc dreamuly drufted up from the gym where Earl Dunns Orchestra was playmg lt was a tremendous success wuth Phyllus crowned queen of the evenung Bull K Roger and Ruchard were the representatuves from our class at Hawkeye Boys State On class day Teresa Manlyn F and Kathryn were unducted unto the Natuonal Honor Socuety Many of our members took advantage ot the druvers course offered for the furst tume thus year The one act plays had several Jun uors un theur casts and the membershup un the Thespuan Socuety also uncluded some junuor students Durung the last semester of the year Rose Mane H Ann Rae and Leon were elected cheerleaders to funush thus year and next Now that we have funally attauned the rank of senuors un the thurd scene the auduence relaxes as these famuluar actuvututes are present The furst mayor event of the year WH9 Homecomung wuth Ann Rae the crowned .1 1- . . u , 1 , - - ' ' , 1. . .
