Homecoming ... a return home ... a time when past gen¬ erations come back to join the present ... a night when those who lived and laughed and grew here return to remember, to be a part of the excitement ... a time to come together, to share our common bonds. After an eventful spirit week with dress-up days and selection of princesses, the night arrives with students, parents, teachers, and, of course, graduates, throng¬ ing the stands in the football sta¬ dium. Cheering their team on against the Edison Eagles, the crowd grew louder as halftime approached and the colorful floats, each representing the theme of seasons, began rolling down the track. They were fol¬ lowed by the eighteen princesses, dressed for the occasion and wav¬ ing at the crowd from the top of shining convertibles. Excitement and anticipation were in the chilly October air as the princesses and their escorts were introduced and as the 1984 homecoming queen, Stacie Scott, was named and crowned. After halftime, the crowd remained cheering for their school despite the team ' s loss to the Eagles. vfc % 8

I With Homecoming just around the corner, the students ' spirit shone through the halls of Groveton throughout the week. Monday was Pajama Day, where students only had to jump out of bed, put on their slippers, grab their stuffed animals, and catch the bus. What a great way of beating the Monday blues. Tues¬ day was Double your Spirit Day, where students tied up the phone lines coordinating outfits with would-be twins. There was a big turn out on Nerd Day with mix-matched plaids and stripes and taped-together glasses. It was hard to determine just who was in costume. The students went back in time to the fifties on Thursday, dressing up in cardigans and sad¬ dle shoes, bringing back memo¬ ries for most of the teachers. The week ended in shades of Black and Gold, where people painted their faces, hands, legs, and for some — their whole bodies in celebration of the Groveton spirit. J
