She lifted her long iced skirts of lace over the land and stepped lightly over brisk northwestern winds. Gently she climbed onto the ripe clouds settled in the January sky and perched on her royal throne of ice. Raising her delicate arms above her, she lets her petticoats drop and those below her felt her power heaved upon the land. With delight, we looked up and watched her graceful de¬ cent whitten the fields below her. Lisa Rodericks

Brooding in this warm corner in the Media Center, looking out these huge floor-to-ceiling windows, my attention is centered on a group of people gathered outside in the dark, cold, rainy day, laughing and jumping about to keep the cold from creeping inside their coats. A burst of laughter from one of the tables brings my attention back to my immediate surroundings. Except for an occasional burst of laughter, hushed blanket of silence covers the room. The room is full of activity. People can be seen studying or scribling notes, while others are reading and checking out books. A functions student, scratches his head with a wild look in his eyes and a disgusted one on his face, looks up at me and shakes his head in disbelief before burying it back into his book. On the other side of the room a Thurber fan reads a short story in My Life and Hard Times and fights a losing battle to keep from laughing. Surrendering, she throws her head back and lets out a laugh that jolts some out of their engrossing activities. Noticing the pairs of eyes that have turned upon her, she blushes but looks defiantly around before returning back to the book with a giggle. Looking around me, I realize how new this library actually is. The new sparkling windows, the soft green carpet underfoot, the tables that have not yet been written on, even the plants with their own air of vitality around them are new, none of these were here three years ago. It is interesting to think what will be here in another twenty. I wonder if, when I ' m old and gray. I ' ll remember the day 1 sat brooding in this warm corner in the Media Center, observing and reflecting, happy to be a part of the Groveton amity, which the school is so well known for.
