Homecoming Week began on Tuesday, November 14, Hick Day, with overalls, straw hats, and nominations for the Homecoming Court. Students and teachers got into the festive spirit by wearing outlandish clothes. Daisy Mae skirts and plaid shirts then gave way to calf-length circle skirts, round-collar blouses, and tee-shirts for Wednesday ' s costumes; ponytails and D.A. ' s topped the 50 ' s day look. On Thursday, an aura of magic was felt as ghouls, witches, fairies and Little-Bo-Peeps came out for Fantasy Day. Friday, everyone turned out in school colors to show spirit on Black and Gold Day. The Court was now official and the choosing of the Queen began. Votes were cast during Homeroom and counted that afternoon; the result would be announced at half time of the football game. A large crowd turned out to watch Groveton play Jefferson; half time showed a score of 7-0, and the parade of floats and princesses began. For the first time, the floats had a cohesive theme. Fantasy, that did not pertain primarily to the ball game. First prize went to the Junior Class ' s rendition of Mother Goose. The band and Drill Team circled the Court while Mr. Ross crowned Cindy Slater, escorted by David Markewitcz. The game recommenced; although Jefferson won by a score of 14-7 the fans saw an exciting game. Saturday night saw a dance sponsored by the Senior Class. There was a large turnout; the two bands were enjoyed by all who attended. It was thus over for another year; the week of make-believe, hasty building and anxious waiting ended on a pleasant note. 10
