With President Kennedy heavily stressing physical fitness in the American youth, our girls get in the swing, or should we say stretch, of things by doing their exercises. Phys. Ed. Strengthens Bodies Physical fitness is very important to the health and well-being of students and good health is very important to one's success in school work. Thus, the school works to promote physical fitness through its program of physical education. ln both the girls' and boys' physical education classes, the periods were filled with much activity. The girls played such games as volleyball and basketball and softball when the weather permitted. During their physical education class, the boys took part in a variety of activities including soccer, wrestling, tumbling, basketball, baseball, and track. Games such as volleyball also constitute an im- portant part of Grover- town's physical educa- tion program. 18 tl

CLASS HISTORY The Grovertomm I-hgh School class of 1963 began 1ts 12 year Journey rn Septem ber of 1951 Thrrteen of those or1g1nal 41 enthusrastrc frrst graders rernarn to grad uate 1n 1963 They are Madge Allen Sally Awald, Judy Clark Jlm Cleveland Beverly Haley Margo Jack, Larry Justrce Georgra Keller Dons Kuchel, Lo1s Ser der George Srngleton, Lmda Stanley and Orvre Ward Mrs Becker and Mrs Glant gurded us through the frrst grade of school Joe Jaeger, Laura Jo Thornburg, and Don Coldeberg jorned our happy group 1n the second grade Our th1rd grade teach er entertarned us at her home when we were rn her class In 1954 we moved to the new grade school burldmg where our fourth year ln school was completed Our teacher mvrted us to her home agarn that year where we spent a sunny day explor 1ng her farm In the frfth grade we went on our frrst two class part1es Mrs Nelson took us to the Brookfreld Zoo and the Rochester skatrng rrnk that year The follow mg year Mrs Taylor took her 25 cheerful srxth graders on a tour of the Museum of Scrence and Industry and the Museum of Hlstory and on therr second roller skat1ng party In the seventh grade, our class attended a hayrrde at Judy Clark's home durmg w1nter's frrst snowfall Our last year rn grammar school was a busy one for all of us We spent our two class partres at the show rn South Bend and at the skat mg rmk rn Rochester We left on our erghth grade tr1p on March 27, 1959, and spent three days tourlng Southern Indxana Twenty two ambrtlous Freshres entered hrgh school rn the fall of 1959 That year we enjoyed a skatmg and show party and spent a Sunday at the lnd1ana Dunes State Park Our Sophomore year brought a new student to our forces, Carolme Stachulak We went roller skatmg that year and ended our second year rn hrgh school wrth a day at the dunes Our last two years rn hrgh school have been our very busrest Barbara Duron en rolled 1n our class early m our Jun1or year We spent the entrre year workmg to earn our Prom and Semor tr1p money We began our campargn 1n September of 1961 w1th magazxne and Chrrstmas card sales We sold concessrons at all home games and also raffled cakes and turkeys We held a bake sale on Aprrl 28 W presented our frrst class play Keep Movrng to the commun1ty on March 23 and 24 Then came the hrghhght of our Junror year We honored the Semors of 1962 wrth a beautlful prom, Fantasy of the Sea, on May 12, 1962, at the LaPorte Arnerrcan Legron Hall Our Semor year was spent Just as busy as our Junror year Rrck Maze and An1ta Spencer Jolned our class, bnngmg our fmal attendance to twenty Annual work began early rn September of 1962 We staged our Sen1or play 'It s a Great Lrfe on October 12 and 13 Our sponsor Mr Nye mvxted us to hrs home for a funfrlled evenmg of carol1ng and partymg to celebrate our Chnstmas season Our Sen1or frsh fry was held the frrst of March Our beautrful Baccalaureate servlce was held on May 19, 1963 We have many fme memorres of our graduatron mght, May 24, 1963 We happrly recall our pro cess1on down the arsle to the 1nsp1r1ng stram of Pomp and C1rcumstnce, the dear frlends and relatrves there to w1sh us well the frrends and classmates of our school days, and the happy moment when we each recerved the drploxna that rep resented our goal achxeved Twenty proud Grovertown graduates left on therr seven day Seruor Trrp on May 26, 1963, to the Northeastern states, the future but a few steps away , - ' I D P 7 3 7 - , , . . . , - 7 3 . . e 7 I . .
