Today, stu- dents have the opportunity to master these skills through the business education courses offered in high school. The business course includes the subjects of typing, bookkeeping, and shorthand. Students are trained and drilled in these skills as they strive to master them. Our World - Past and Present Using sample ballots, the high school students took part in a mock election held by the government class. The study of history is a study of civilization--a study of the past and of the present. Through the social studies--history, government, and their related topics--students learn of the world of past civilizations and of the world of today. Ranging from such topics as ancient war methods to present day revenues, the Social Studies course covers many varying phases of history. Students of world history studied not only the ancient history of early civilization, but also the progress and development of foreign countries. Through the courses of United States history and government, students learned of the historical background of our country's growth and of the system of feder- alism which governs it. Such subjects as economics and sociology offered instruction to students in the field of the business and social affairs of the world. 14

English students often find that they must use the li- brary facilities for such projects as compositions and reference work. a '4' Language s Communication English, which is a required subject, teaches many skills. Students are drilled in grammar, vocabu- lary, writing, and reading. They learn to not only speak correctly, but to put their thoughts on paper as they learn the techniques of composition. Another important part of the English course--Literature-- gives the student an opportunity to increase his knowledge as he studies such writings as essays, prose, and novels. Latina habitat hodie --Latin lives today. In professions, in other languages, and in the classroom, the value of the Latin language has become very evident. Latin students, while they are studying one of the greatest cultures the world has ever produced, are learning a language which is the basis for many other languages--a language which will always be an asset to them in life. One of the things required of Latin I students is to make a poster. Here we see several students re- touching some of these posters. 16
