Twelve Years Together In September of 1950 forty bright, cheerful children entered the first grade at Grovertown School. Of these forty, fourteen are still present to graduate in 1961: Ted Wilson, Cheryl Farnham, Laurel Duthie, Don Johnson, Sharon Ball, Tom Hayes, Arthur Norman, Connie Hlavacek, Rick Challman, Stanley Beem, Dave Justice, Marie Kriskovsky, Beverly Keller, and Sandra Haug. Mrs. Glant was our first grade teacher. In the third grade we were joined by Barbara Coldeberg, Carolyn Milner, and Susan I-Iilt, and our teachers were Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Hollett. Susan Hensler joined us in the fourth grade when Mrs. Steele was our teacher. During our fifth grade year with Mrs. Nelson, Terry Youngman joined us. Besides having two new classmates, Bill Kranenburg and Charles Brenner, we took a field trip to the Chicago Museum of Natural History and Mid-Way Airport. With our Sixth Grade teacher, Mrs. Taylor, we visited the Planetarium in Chicago. Then came junior high, the biggest step in our educational career. It didn't take long to adjust to the changes and to our new classmates, Gail Reid and Dorothy Timm, who joined us in the seventh grade, and Dewey Clark who joined us in the eighth grade. Mr. Vance, was our sponsor that year when we took a three day trip through Southern Indiana. Then came that sunny September in '58 when we became freshmen. One of the first things that happened, that we will never forget, was our initiation. Mr. Powell, our faculty advisor, helped us with our money making project of selling candy. During our sophomore year Mr. Richey guided us. Then carrie the busiest year yet--our junior year. We sold candy at all home basketball games, Christmas cards, magazines, and gave the play A Rocket in His Pocket. We received our class rings April 19. As a highlight of our activities we diligently worked on the Junior-Senior Prom, Oriental Gardens, which was given May 6, 1961, in the Grovertown High School Gymnasium. Fay Bittick helped us this year when she became a mem- ber of our class. Finally we were seniors! In this last year John Kostin enrolled. Our last play The Ghosts Go West, a fish fry, an annual drive, and the school annual, were projects guided by Mrs. Reid, who was our junior and senior sponsor. Baccalaureate services were held May 20, 1962, and Commencement exercises were May 25 1962. May 27 we left for our six day trip to Washington, D.C. and New York. 18
