PRINCIPAL Members of the Class of 1960 The thought of graduation calls to mind the lines from Longfellow ' s immortal poem, The Psalm of Life . Lives of great men all remind us We can make our lives sublime, And departing, leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time. Some of you have already made deep and lasting im- prints in this sand, some in the realm of scholarship, others in extracurricular activities. Many of you have held positions of responsibility in connection with your class, the annual, clubs in and out of school, etc. Yes, you have left your impressions--impressions that vary because some of you have not made the best use of the time in the sands of time. (Someone has said that footprints on the sands of time are not made while sit- ting down . )- -Time is the one thing that each of us possess- es. Let us all, in the future, uge our time to develop our abilities in useful services, economic, political, philosoph- ic, artistic, and scientific. With the indelible marks already left behind us, who can say to what depths we can sink our imprints in the future? The sands may shift around our feet and our lives may change with these unexpected shiftings, but let us go for- ward bravely with only one thought in mind, that the foot- prints we leave behind us may be firm and sure.
