Of the original, the sixteen are re- maining, Frank Abel, Don Adams, Eldon Amor, Dana Anderson, Linda Beem, Janice Carmean, Betty Filip, Sandra Keiper, Russell Kcontz, James Kuchel, Nancy Norris, Valerie Ogle, Barbara Riffey, James Singleton, Virginia Taylor, and Garrett White. In second and third grade we were joined by Jaines Carnes and Chester Menczynski respectively. Mrs. Hasely remained our teacher during those two years. In fourth grade Howard Lipke and Jerry Seese entered the happy group, and Mrs. Evelyn Peterson was our teacher. Stanley Marks decided on joining Old Grover in the fifth grade. In this year Mrs. Ethel Nelson was our leader. and we took our first school trip to Brookfield Zoo. With five years of schooling behind us we advanced into the 7th grade with Mr. Robert Plotkin as our teacher. During this year the class presented A Christ- mas Carol by Charles Dickens. It was our first production and quite exciting for everyone. As we proceeded out of elementary, and into Junior High, Deanna Daily joined us in the seventh grade. We realized that the next six years were to be the best. In May of 1953 this jovial group set out on a 3-day trip to southern Indiana. It was a wonderful experience and enjoyed by all. Eighth grade graduation was our next big thrill, with everyone looking forward to the moment when he would enter high school. Dean Kelly entered our class in the ninth grade, and was the last sheep to the fold. This was an exciting year with everyone attempting to adjust himself to high school. We can never forget our freshman initiation, which was fun for all. Our junior year was one of the most thrilling of all. It was during this time that we presented our first major production of Mumbo Jumbo , Lmder the super- vision of Mrs. Barbara Howard. During this year we conducted many different schemes to earn money for the long awaited Junior and Senior trips. The Junior trip to Canada was a huge success. There were loads of laughs and many memor- able experiences. Finally the much anticipated Senior Year rolled around. During this time we gave our second production titled Finders Creepers . The first semester sped by during which we made preparations for our annual, had senior pictures taken, and earned money. The final semester seemed longer, because each person was anxiously awaiting the exciting climax to our 12 yearsg graduation and the trip. Early on the morning of May 24, 1958, twenty-four of the recently graduated seniors left on the wonderful and exciting trip. With three teams QGrover, Star City, Medaryvilley losing only one game in the conference there had to be a play off to see who would win the tourney. Grovertown drew a by and Star City beat Medaryville in the first game. Then Grover played Star City in the final game and won 1-O, and received the trophy. The boys did very good this year and we wish them all the luck in the future. 3 l Front Row: Clifford Allen, Howard Lipke, JLu1ior Allen, Damon Filip, Dick Olds, Coach L. Richey. ' ' Team The team started with a pretty good clip at the first of the season, but due to illness toward the middle we lacked players and experience which holds a team back and makes them a little lmeasy, but we did manage to have a 12-9 record, be runners-up in the 4-way Tourney and be County Champs for the second time. Now we hope to make a good showing in the Sectional, and Good Luck to the boys in the future. ill YW-- Y ,--:,,, --..-...-g.......f:.-. i-.f,u.-m... 55 Standing: Mr. Richey, Tom Plantinga, Ron Stalberg, John Holm, Roger Back, Larry Porter, Tom Youngman Front Row: Pete DeVos, Bob Duthie, Jim Millice, Eddie Filip, Dick Chiaro. During 1957 the council got well under way. It conducted special convocations, assisted in school leadership, created numerous social activities, and proved itself to be a worthy school activity. Presently, our Student Council is still under the leadership of Mrs. Barbara Howard. During this year the Student Council has taken up the task of raising money for a new trophy case, which they will donate to the school. To earn the money needed, it has sold fire extinguishers. presented convocations, and dances. This year our council has presented two special holiday programs. There was a special Thanksgiving service and a Christmas play. If we believe the above to be true, then we can see that a school must attack ignorance and try to replace it with know- ledge, Knowledge is finding the truth, therefore, truth is the opposite of ignorance. The truth of life must be found if a person is to find happinessg happiness must be found if we expect to lead a full life. Learn to attack ignorance wherever you find it. This will be a task, but if you believe in yourself and your fellowman, you will want truth to prevail. Learn to live honestly and truthfully with yourself, if you can do this, you will be at peace with your neighbors and your world will be one of truth and happiness. As the class of 1958 looks back on their school years, it is our hope that you may see the attempt made here at Grovertown to help each of you gain the fullest measure of these attributes. The school and the community have tried to furnish you with as many of the essentials as possible, it is now your task to use them to your own way of life. Graduation from High School merely takes one to the door, each of you will have to Lmlock this door and step through to your place in the community you choose to live in. Make sure you are a positive force not a deterrent. This is my wish for each of you.
