' 1 t efau yljfdty In the year 1943, 36 little hopefuls were hcmded an apple, given a goodbye kiss from a tearful mother and sent off for their first day at the Grovertown Institution of Leaming. Today seven of them still remain. They are Judy Harness, Carl Shively, Lois Cranmer, Bob Bun'is, Jerome Howard, Jim Clark, and Eva Riffey. Joining us in the last half of the first grade was Helen Olds. Erma Wnitaker joined us in 1944. Yvonne Beem, Arthur Borrelli, and Charles Schu- macher in 1945. In the fourth grade, Daniel Paulsen came from Chicago. Ted Fellner, our class president for the last two years, joined us in '47, Betty Hickman joined the jr. high class in 1949 from Plymouth. ln 1950, DeAnna Janovic and Carol Kessler joined our noisy and mischievous class. Then in 1951, 28 eager-for-high-school students graduated from the eighth grade. Twenty-eight green freshies entered high school in '51 with the usual ceremony. Seventeen of them now remain. Bob Kelly joined our class from Chicago during our sophomore year and the last half of our senior year, Paul Podd, who was in our class in the fourth grade, just had to come back. Many students have come and gone since we entered high school and it would be hard to name them all so we will just mention the junior and senior year. Carol Amor left to become Nrs. Carl Rosander. Mary Kay Newell, Billy Justice, who was seen at the Mill- creek game, Paul Janiszenski, Delbert Rosander are some others. We were all sorry to see them leave and will think of them that great day when we re- ceive our diplomas. 26

Ten Years Hence Here we are at the beautiful new Grovertown Memorial Auditorium in the spring of l965. Where today there is going to be a class reunion of the class of 55 . As we enter we see Bob Kelly, the president of the Buick division of General Motors talking to Ted Fellner, a prominent dentist from New York. As we are looking around inside who should we see but .hrome Howard, who now pitches for the Chicago Cubs and talking with him is Grover- town 's new basketball coach,' Bob Burris, and in the conversation is Art Borrelli who is manager of the Minneapolis Lakers. As we are reminiscing together, a couple more of our classmates come in and they are none other than DeAnna Janovic, the famous fashion designer of New York and Paris, and her leading model, Judy Harness. They said they saw Charles Schumacher who was the pilot that flew them from Paris and that he will be over as soon as he checks out of the airport. Now everyone seems to be coming. Another one of the famous seniors of 55 is Betty Hickman, who owns a chain of beauty salons across the country. ln walks Daniel Paulsen and Carl Shivelyg they tell us that Daniel is Dean of Chemistry at Purdue University and Carl is Dean of Math. Also, while talking about school, who should walk in but another former classmate, Lois Cronmer, who is now home economics teacher at Grover- town. As we are all talking together, another one of our former classmates steps into the conver- sation. She is none other than Carol Kessler. She tells us that she is happily married and has her own Dairy Queen. Helen Olds and Erma Whitaker just came in so we go over and greet them. Helen tells us she owns a chain of drug stores and that Erma is her business manager. They also told us that on their way to the reunion, they saw Yvonne Beem who we haven't seen since her marriage. We're sorry she can't be with us today but she has iust left for Europe and wouldn't be back for a few weeks. As we Wdmflel' on around the auditorium, we see Jim Clark and Eva Riffey. Jim, who has taken over his dad's hay business, now supplies half the United States with hay and straw. And Eva tells us she is now head mechanic in her father's garage. Wait a minute, who is that attractive looking gentleman coming through the door, it is none other than Paul Podd, the famous dental technician. Well, the hour is late and we'll have to be leaving soon. We all hope we can get together some other time and have another reunion. 25
