Let's look ahead ten years and see the present class of 53. First we come to Dian Harness, a black haired little lass, who is married to a doctor, she was president of our class. Ralph Gillies, our mech- anic, is really up to par. For quick efficient service, call him to fix your car. Carl Rosander is a dare dev- il with a dare: he's flying in a jet and coming in on a wing and a prayer. June Weller, our cute blonde classmate. Yes, she is married toop she has so many children she doesn't know what to do. Her husband is Walter, Ketcham is his last name. He'sa certified accountant, but teaching is his game. Donald Dipert is head man of the press. Down at the Pilot office, they never let him rest. Nancy Hickman is your friendly beautician. Call her to set your hair when you haven't the ambition. Shirley Schultz is the typ- ist that makes her fingers fly. Her boss has his eyes for herg she'll get him by and by. Billie June Powell is the smart one, she's working as a nurse. She helps the family income, her husband drives a hearse. Ro- lin Popplewell is happy, a big farmer now is he. He keeps his wife and family as busy as can be. Joan Stahlberg is quite different, she's the entertaining kind. She now works in a night club in the chorus line. Ethelyn Gressley is a secretary in Washington, D. C. They really keep her busy. Go there and you will see. Wanetta Jonse is happy, Ralph has changed her name at last. She said she'd be an old maid, but that was in the past. Ethel Summerlott, a nurse's aid is she, she's striving hard to reach the top. She'll make it wait and see. Now we come to Lula, our sponsor, who's taking a rest, she 's home in her kit- chen, Henry thinks that's best. Then too, there's work to be done for credit in commerce. And once in a while, as the saying goes, when the cat is away the mice will play. AT GROVERTOWN The girls of the Grovertown High School have enjoyed the privilege of belonging to the Girls Athletic Association. This Indiana organization has a membership of nearly one hundred schools. In this organization social activities and an athletic program which is set by the state GAA are followed. Games with other schools are planned, friendships with girls of other schools are begun, and all of the worthwhile benefits of activity engaging in play activities are felt. Leadership qualities are developed as girls lead or direct their groups in organized play. Many of the members are also having the added leadership training of direct- ing the smaller children in play. The sponsor of our GAA is Mary Margaret Corbitt. The officers of the 1952-53 school year are: President -- Carolyn Abel, Vice President -- Norine Lehiy, Secretary -- Deanna Janovic, Treasurer -- Donnell Chiaro, Secretary of points -- Ruby Allen. Girls now in school who have earned their school letters are: Carolyn Abel, Mary Ann Erickson, Marie Morrey, and Doris Wisler. 0551 s 'E UGQ Bottom Row: Rosalie Ordas, Barbara Hrabal, Norine Lehiy, Carolyn Abel, Deanna Ianovic, Ruby Allen, Donell Chiaro, Bernice Brune, Alice Whitesell, Yvonne Beem, Miss Corbitt.. The Class of '53 preferred this name to Aries, a Latin word of which few pupils know the meaning. Many alumni will recall that the yearbook was formerly called Memories or Grover Memories. The red cover reminds us of our class flower, while the inside blue and white pages remind us of our class colors. The crest of the class ring appears in gold on the cover. SCHOOL SCNG ONWARD GROVER 3 Onward Grover, Onward Grover Dribble down the floor. Pass the ball around to center, Now's your chance to score. Rah! Rah! MERCIA. 3 A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL To capture the fulness of school life is not an easy task. The spirit of a school is largely made up of abstract qualities such as diligence, prompt- ness, integrity, respect for authority, loyalty, and cooperation. All of these qualities, and many more, are truly fostered by a fine faculty and exemplified by the students in their everyday school life. After the passing of years has dimmed our memory of the pleasant years spent at Grover- town School -- then shall we turn with sincere appreciation to MEMORIES of '53 which has so admirably preserved for us a record of our school life. Henry B. Seger
