The 1977 Varsity Baseball team has as much talent as any team in Cavalier history. This year ' s team returns 7 out of 9 starters. Returning catcher Paul Romero is a three year starter, was 1st team All-league, batting champ for the second year in a row, and last year ' s Co-Most Valu- able Player. Danny Bounds was a 1st team All-league pitcher, and last year ' s Co-Most Valuable Player. An- other returning player Dave Smith was a 2nd team All- league infielder. Tom Bell has the duty of 3rd base for the 2nd year in a row and should be a prominent player this year. Shawn Toerner, a transfer from Notre Dame High School will be the lead-off hitter and 2nd baseman. His hitting should be a key to the success of the team. Center fielder Don Jorgens, another 2nd year player should be an inspiration to the team. Bob Moran and Allen Smith are the starting Left-fielder and Right-fielder. They round out a good defensive outfield and should get their share of hits this year. Wayne Redburn will be playing 1st base when he ' s not pitching. If the team plays its kind of base- ball it should be a league and city contender . . . 97
