f .E U5 Valeclictory When first we entered Grover Cleveland High School as awe-stricken freshmen, graduation seemed so far away - four years was nothing short of an eternity. But the years have slipped rapidly by and now that graduation is at hand, we of the Class of l954 wish to express our gratitude and affection toward our school. Although this is one of the happiest events of our lives, we cannot help but feel sad at the thought of leaving behind all the things we have come to hold so dear. The past four years have been full and happy ones. We take with us golden memories of days that are no more, but which will live forever in our hearts. To put into words our feelings of gratitude and affection is difficult. In a material and moral sense, Grover has been a way of life for us these last four years. Through its teachings and its traditions, it has helped us broaden our understanding, increase our knowledge, and sharpen our skills. lt has given us more than facts and data, it has shown us that a necessary condition to a full and happy life is the development of a proper attitude toward citizenship and responsibilities. It has tried to instill in us those habits of mind and work which will open doors of opportunity for us in our future endeavors. To the teachers and administrators of Grover we offer our sincerest thanks and appreciation. To those whose labors have brought us to the fulfillment of our hopes, we say, Thank you for your selfless and devoted efforts. We will try to live our lives in such a way as to demonstrate that your work has not been in vain. On this occasion we wish also to express our gratitude to our parents. To them we can only say - May you always be as proud of us as we are of your love, your forbearance, and your dedication to the task of raising us to be worthy of our God and our country. Thus we say our farewells - saddened by the immediacy of our departure, but content and grateful that we are well equipped for what lies ahead of us. MARIE GRIFFO. l2
