DEVINE AND MR. KENNEDY In Retrospect September boughs bent low with leaves as the long rays of the fading sun slanted in upon his office chair, Our first principal of Grover Cleveland High School had retired from a long career of educational service to the quiet dignity of a banking career. We cannot forget this first leader of ours, staunch as the finest in any forest, bending with charm on such occasions as a Commencement Night, his handclasp one to be remembered, his voice always to be respected. Charles A. Kennedy, first principal of Grover Cleveland High School, was a graduate of Old Central High School, Buffalo State Teachers' College, The University of Buffalo School of Law, later principal of Schools 34, 4, 6, and 63, also assistant principal of East High School, but the true character of his service was best defined during his twenty years here at Grover Cleveland. May his manhood, his pride, and his insight bless all our days! Our New ,Principal To The Seniors Do you remember the day, four years ago, that you entered Grover Cleveland? Now that you look back, the years have passed quickly since that day. What have they brought? New horizons, we hope-and new ambitions, aspirations, ideals, and loyalties, Let me dwell particularly on that last word. Wherexfer you go and whatever you do, you are bound in loyalty to Grover Cleveland, its ideals and its creed. And we your friends, who are left behind, are bound to you by the same indissoluble tie. OurNew Assistant Principal ji We shall always be interested in you-and your accomplishments. lt will be our sincere and earnest prayer that you succeed to the limit of your fondest hopes. ln the words of a good friend who accompanies his departing guests to the door: Come back for a visit whenever you can. lt was good to have had you with us. 'I H 'l 'vi Nt X Valeclictory Concetta Natoli For the past four years, all our hopes and efforts have been centered on the joyous sense of fulfillment that graduation seemed to promise. To graduate means to move forward. Yet, while we look ahead with eagerness, we find ourselves looking back and remembering. Words are frail instruments to express our humble aware- ness of the debt we owe our parents. Their strength has sustained us and their loving pride has been a constant spur to our ambition. To those who have led and taught us, we give grateful acknowledgment. They have shown us the sources and well- springs of knowledge, hopeful that we would grow to a matured sense of responsibility and citizenship. lt is difficult to add a final note to our farewell when we remember what our Alma Mater has meant to us - the friend- ships we have formed with both the faculty and the students. We hope we shall meet again, but until then, with gratitude for the past and a prayer for the future, we say goodbye to our beloved school - Grover Cleveland. it Aw , 6 to girl at lm 5 Ni Q gs ,. xt , M ll gfgyyx' 'SQ' ,V as ftlfwl A ff QSM f wa L f .1 e fc ...L Ev if 1 ftislsy ll' tl? 4 If' l WN ' ff.
