f o 9 fef S ewumsce f? Ly Four years of high school have their reward. They not only lead to gradu- ation, but they also provide material for reminiscing--so let's go back to 1941 and -reminisce. Remember 1941? As adolescent Frosh we set out to conquer our world fGrover Clevelandi. We sold the largest percentage of budget books and purchased the greatest number of war bonds.-Remember when Maria Mazzuca and Salvatore Zaccagnino won the spelling bee--and Rosie Cappellini and Gloria Maggio topped the Honor Roll. Mr. Kennedy's statement, lt is the Freshmen who are most out- standing this yearl set the seal on our triumph. September, 1942, found us returning to Grover as Sophomores. As befits upper classmen, we acquired poise and dignityl?i, and wrought sweet revenge upon the new arrivals. -This year found Grover at its best. Our track team won the trophy-with George Pinkel and Jimmy Ralabate among the first ten at the finish. -Remember how our scrap pile grew to an impressive size-and how the bond sales zoomed? lt was in this very same year that our school was faced with the threat of being closed. Thank God, our campaign was successful and Grover is still ours. Before we knew it, September, 1943, had rolled around and we then bore the title of Juniors. Remember the Junior Social, or rather the Barn Dance, complete with plaid shirts and square dances - how the Junior girls defeated the Senior girls in that unforgettable basketball game-when 300 revived Campus Topics -and how it actually didn't rain on Junior Day? And now it is 1945-the last of our school days at Grover Cleveland. We shall never forget the loyal and trustworthy friends we had during our four years of High School-and the memories we shall always retain in our minds, pleasant ones, and some sad ones. Our pleasant memories include the plays presented by the Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior and Senior classes-each one better than the other, yet all praiseworthy. This was the year we all shall remember as the first year in which a Junior-Senior Prom was given at Kleinhans Music Hall. At this point let us pause to pay homage to those boys from the Class of 1945 who have left Grover to serve in the Armed Forces. Among these memorable lads we find familiar names-names such as: Joseph Gentile, Chester Swanson, Stanley Patten, Cosmo Grisanti, Salvatore Zaccagnino, Daniel Letteri, Daniel Rob- erto, Matthew Nasca, George Pinkel, George Salemi, Leslie Smith, Carlton Nor- ton and Jack Maynard. At this time, we pay special tribute to Vincent Marmion, who is one of those who 'gave their lives for their country. We are proud of these boys--proud that they were part of the Class of '45. A group both eager and reluctant now leaves Grover Cleveland--a group eager to emerge into a world of opportunity and adventure, but reluctant to leave part of our life behind us. We shall try to uphold the principles you, our Alma Mater, have instilled in us.
