Ualeclicfofz 'K 'k i' At last the time has come for us to part. This is goodbye and goodbyes are never easy. We must say farewell to friends whom we have come to love, for never again will we be one as a class. It is a glad mo- ment as well as a sad one, one full of hope and happiness as well as sorrow. Tomorrow is ours. lt will be what we make it. But, tomorrow is another day. This is our day but it is a dark one. War wreaks destruction and death over all the earth. We shall all serve our country in one way or another before the darkness passes. How many of us will be spared to carry on to make tomorrow a better day? Nevertheless, courage is our heritage, our American birthright. We shall not fail to bring the light! This is our goodbye to Grover Cleveland High School. How can we express our feeling for our school? lt cannot be expressed in mere words. lt is something deep and fine, something too precious for words. lt is our memory of work and play, of little things-the morning bell, the rush at lunch, unexpected study papers, and crowded locker rooms. All of this and more we hold in our hearts. lt is simply the joy of being young and in school. This is our farewell to Mr. Kennedy, Mr. Devine, and our dear friends and teachers, who have guided us through the trials of school, study, and examinations. Forgive our faults and remember us, for we will never forget you. And to our parents what can we say but thank you, thank you for giving us all this, for giving us this opportunity to learn, for your pray- ers and your confidence in us, for your sacrifices. We stand before you now and hope that you are proud of our achievements. With all our sadness we are happy, happy because we are no longer children, happy because we are now ready to try our wings. We leave confident in our ability to fight for life and happiness, and we will find that happiness and success even in this war-torn world. And so, Fellow- classmates, goodbye. With a prayer for the future and gratitude for the past, goodbye, good luck, and may God be with you. Mary .lane Gill
