SAM GELFMAN Preridenl f -I The second branch of our student government is the Student Coun- ' cil. This is a smaller group selected from the Senate by the Senate 4' members themselves. f tt As it is a smaller organization the Council takes care of any serious it ll fy business that may arise during the course of the school year, and acts 2 g 1 i I on it immediately, besides planning the agenda for each Senate meeting 1 which lies ahead. ,- Maybe you would all like to know the purposes of our Student A' ' Council. Here are its three outstanding aims in brief form: 0 i I 1. To increase the condition and promotion of student activity and .Y to insure greater participation by all students. 2. To promote better relations between the teacher and the student, ' and among the students themselves. 3. To develop the student appreciation of democratic membership in a school. At the head of the Student Council are only two offices, and each is filled by a capable person. Sam Gelfman is the president, and Nancy Ericson is the secretary. Both the Senate and the Student Council have proved to all of us that they can perform a note-worthy job on anything they may under- take, The democratic way of life is the best way of life. Our student government is great evidence of this in our high school. 59
