JUNICRS SOPI-IOMQRES FRESHMEN Our junior Class began the third year in G.C.H.S. by electing four very capable ofiicers: jack Ward, president, Nancy Ericson, vice- presidentg Lee Wfagner, secretary, Arnold Major, treasurer. We start- ed this year with the earnest desire to have a substantial budget, so under the guidance of Mr. Long, our class adviser, and a committee of very willing juniors, we sold re- freshments at the home football games. Our next venture was the annual sale of Christmas cards, and this year an added attraction was the sale of handpainted napkins. After these most profitable adventures came the traditional cake sale. All these made possible the splendid success of our beautiful prom, which I am sure will live in the memory of every junior long after we leave Caldwell High. Besides raising money we, juniors, participated in all of the school activities and made a fine showing. Next year will find many of our junior boys stepping into Varsity positions vacated by graduating seniors. All in all, we consider our third year in G.C.H.S. a very happy and successful one. U43 The Sophomore class, this year numbering over three hundred stu- dents in all, is the largest Grover Cleveland High School has ever had. At the beginning of the year these students elected a Sophomore Coun- cil to take charge of their school activities. Miss Courtney was se- lected to be the Faculty Adviser and she, together with the Council, went right to work on the dues. It was decided that the dues would be fifty cents per student, making a working capital of one hundred and fifty dollars. This money was used to defray the expenses for decorations and refreshments for the Sophomore Dance, which was an informal affair, well run and very well attended. The members of the Sophomore Council are Paul Leonard, the presi- dent of the classg Peter Fallon, the vice-president, Mary Ann Rudolph, the secretaryg jacob Harris, the treasurer, Mary jackson, Ruth Knoff, John Chichester, William Belton, Peter Hofinga, Robert Egg- enberger, Edward Searles, Helen Neu, and Adolph Storz. As the Clarion goes to print, thee Ninth Grade Council is busy plan- ning its second term activities. They are working hard to make this a .successful year for the Freshman class. First and foremost on the list is the Freshman Dance. The plans for this give promise of a party that ought to be a great success. A Roller Skating Party is also planned for Febraury 25, during the mid- winter vacation. It will be held at Florham Park Rink. Sports are playing a great part in Freshman activities this year. The football season is over and our team emerges fully qualified for heavy duty service next year. Although they didn't win many games, what they lost in prestige was made up in experience. Our basketball team shows very great promise and is made up, for the most part, of players with Plenty of skill and experience. With the coming of baseball, we look forward to a successful season. There are many hopeful candidates and an abundance of team spirit and interest on the part of the rooters.
