CLASS ADVISER MR MAX VORWERK 40 4 CLASS HISTORY With our last and best years drawing to a close we find the Seniors reminiscing over their previous joyous exper periences in the halls of Grover Cleveland High School Our thoughts are as a dream as we think back over our last four years Yes it was the fall of 1945 when our shy Freshman class entered Caldwell High little dreaming that they would become the famous 49 ers ' Although some of our Freshmen were familiar with the school to many others from Livingston Roseland Essex Fells and other out lying districts it was something entirely new Under the able guidance of Mr Fox our adviser and Howard aco bus our president we the bewildered freshmen were soon shuffled into our right places and the hrst year passed most pleasantly Returning after our summer vacation and no longer the babies of the school we the sophisticated sophomores were ready again to take our place in Caldwell high Mrs Benson our inspiring Latin teacher was chosen as our class adviser with Sam Gelfman president Howard acobus vice president Marion Zahn secretary Nick Teti treas urer Because our sophomore class was so large a sopho more council was chosen to govern us This consisted of pupils representing each homeroom and this group did a fine job in carrying out our many class activities Our first real get together was our Sophomore class party which brought to light the various talents of our class which we have drawn on many times since Thus soon another year hurried by Coming back as juniors and knowing an eventful year was beginning the class elections were held with keen interest. As a result of this exciting election Howard a- cobus was elected president- Bob Flynn vice-president' Marigene Harrington secretary' and ack Riddell treasurer. Mr. Vorwerk was chosen unanimously to guide us. Our football season this year was to be remembered because we beat Glen Ridge! and we uniors felt proud because the team included many boys from our class.
