MARCHING BAND BAND REPORT The 1956-57 Edition of the High School Band has been a very spirited and well-knit group. Consisting of 65 members, the band has engaged in many activities and programs. Following are some of the many activities that the band has been involved in during the past year: The Annual Memorial Day Parades at both Lithopolis and Groveport, a concert for the Fire- man's Carnival and later a concert at the Columbus Park of Roses. Also, an appearance at both the Franklin County and Ohio State Fairs. Next was a performance at the Pickaway County Fair of Circleville and their annual participation in the famous Pumpkin Show, also held at Circleville. The Marching Band appeared and gave performances at all home and away football games, the Pep Band played for all home basketball games, and the Dance Band played for many affairs and dances during the school year. The Annual Band Concert was held on March 15 with a large crowd attending, and a week later the Annual All-County Festival was held with ten of the Groveport members having been chosen to be in the All-County Band. Many of the band students attended both District and State Contests with John Brown receiving a I rating at both events. Used as money-makers, the band sold their yearly quota of candy bars and introduced a new item, the Cruiser-Pen. Many of the school-colored ball-point pens were very much in evidence during the latter part of the school year. The Band, under the direction of Mr. Gillum, closed a successful year by performing at the Eighth Grade Commencement, Baccalaureate, and Commencement Exercises. They are looking forward to many trips and events during the summer months.
