The Girls' Athletic Association is open to all girls in the high school. This is an organi- zation that helps freshmen girls and new girls coming into our school, and promotes athletic activities for all upper six grades. This is accomplished by means of the big sister plan, through the Big Sister Board. Board members were: Judy Higgins, Janice Carruthers, Ar- lene Glenn, Carol Knapp, Betty Woods, Barbara Day, Jo Dill, Peggy Knapp, and Marcia Mc- Guire. The GAA sponsored two guest speakers this year. They were: Mr. W. Middledorf, of the American Red Cross, who helped the Junior Class in its course in First Aid, and Dr. Floyd Faust, who talked on the subject Are You Fit To Be Tied? , One of the main accomplishments of the club this year was the teaching of dancing to all high school students. This was under the instruction of Mrs. Dorothy Breckler, formerly from the dancing staff of Arthur Murray Studios. Our only means of financing the GAA is the candy sale, which is encouraged by competition between classes. The freshmen won the Taffy sale and the juniors won the Yeanut Brittle sale. The officers each year are elected by the members and this year the officers were: Betty Woods, President, Judy Higgins, Vice President, Jo Dill, Treasurer, Barbara Day, Secre- tary, Flora McClure, Publicity Chairman, Peggy Knapp, Activities Chairman, Carol Knapp, Demonstration Head, Arlene Glenn and Janice Carruthers, Sports Heads. The girls in the GAA have an opportunity to participate in a great many sports. Each type of sport has a sport head. A girl is elected by her fellow classmates.
