FOOTBALL The 1955 Football Season opened with the usual preview games which took place at Hamilton Twp., Sep- tember 10. This night saw Grove- port going against its greatest rival, Canal Winchester. The Cruisers had little trouble in downing the Indians, 14-O. We opened the league season a- gainst Dublin on our own field. All the boys looked good that night as they rambled over Dublin to their first league victory, 54-0. Reynoldsburg then played host to the Cruisers on their own Home- coming. The Raiders had not lost a Homecoming game in seven years. But the Cruisers broke that string at seven by winning a tough 7-6 ball game whichwas played on a very wet and muddy field due to the rain on the two previous days and throughout the game. The coaches and team want to thank the fans who braved the ele- ments to support the team. They were very grateful for their support. Rosary made the journey to Grove- port, where the Cruisers were the underdogs at the start of that game. The final score showed a convincing Groveport win, Z0-14. BASKETBALL The varsity record was not too impre ssive as far as wins and losses were concerned as they ended up with 9-9 splitoverall. ln league play their record was a little better as they managed 5wins against only 3 losses. Compare these records with the fact that four of the losses throughout the season were by only five points or less and you find that the team's strength was greater than the re- cord shows. Besides this all the boys gained alot of good experience while participating. On December 28-2.9, Groveport heldal-loliday Carnival in which four teams participated- Groveport, Grandview, Reynoldsburg, and Cir- cleville. The first night saw the host Cruisers losing a thriller to Grandview 49-48. A bucket for the Cruisers Circleville, also, downed Rey- noldsburg. The second night of the carnival found the two losers and the two winners of the preceding night competing against each other. In the first game the Cruisers took a close decision from the Raiders from Reynoldsburg 65-63 and in the second game Circleville downed Grandview for the trophy. For the second year the Cruisers competed in the Central District Bas- ketballTournament in the coliseum. They drew powerful Washington C. H. for the first game and were unable to find the range as they lost 74-51. This ended the season and looking back, it was a fairly successful one. Included in the nine wins were two from arch-rival Canal Winchester and twofrom highly rated Reynolds- burg. C' 90,5 HH HI we The Groveport High School Band, which is composed of fifty-five mem- bers, has had a very progressive year. They performed at all the foot- ball games and participated in the Circleville Pumpkin Show. They gave a concert on April 6 and played an integral part in the All-County Band Festival, which was held at Grove- port on April 20. There were eleven students from Groveport in this band. They are as follows: James Spence, Sharon Kalb, Susan Johnson, Julie French, Bob Kirk, John Brown, Carole Van Gundy, Jo Dill, Janice Carruthers, Betty Woods, and Marcia McGuire. The band participated in the Bac- calaureate and Commencement ex- ercises and planto hold several con- certs and make trips to both the county and state fairs during the summer. Eventhough this is the first year for Mr. L.H. Gillum, the band has progressed greatly. The band as a whole appreciated greatly the coop- eration of the faculty, administration, student body and community. The backing of the band can well be seen in the new band uniforms. These could not have been purchased with- out the help and cooperation of every- one in the community. The officers of the band are: Bob Kirk, Presidentg Joyce Milless, Vice-Presidentg Jo Dill, Secretaryg Betty Woods, Librariang and Janet Ball, News Reporter.
