UNIOR CLASS Election of officers was the first important event on the calendar for the class of '55. October brought the election for Homecoming Court. Pretty little Char- lene Smith was' chosen to represent our class. She was escorted by Jerry Good- year. Mary Kay Nelson, Sharon Schwaberow, Mary Ellen Codner, and Suzie Haines had the honor of being elected to the Honor Society late in October. ln February Barbara Davy, Mabel McClish, and Valerie Johnson were taken into the Society. Our large money-making project was a Rag Drive. lt was something new for most of us, but a success. We made 5173.59 from this drive. Lucky Penny was the name of the class play. It was given the latest of any junior play. However it was still a wonderful success. The juniors honored the seniors at abanquet given at Ilonka's Provincial House on May 1. Our class party was a picnic on May 26. 24 iii i s -s . The students gatheredin the gymnasium where they enjoyed avariety show staged by members of the class. They then square danced. Refreshments were served in the cafe- teria. Judy Turner was honored by her class by being chosen as the Sophomore Attendant in the Homecoming Queen's Court. Judy chose Ronnie Taylor as her escort. 27 Row l, Left to Right: Andrea Lambert, Rita Bentley, Margie Beery, Betty Brown, Norma Hysell, Nancy Andrews,Barbara Miller,Betty Bryan,Barbara Groves, Janice Carruthers, Dorothy Fannin, Arlene Glenn, Rita Murray. FRESHMAN CLASS We opened school with the largest freshman class in the history of Groveport High School. We had a total of eighty-seven. As the year progressed, this num- ber decreased to eighty-four. During football season we chose Carol Knapp to represent our class in the Homecoming Court. As her escort, she chose Randy Worch. The money that we earned on Dads' Night at the football refreshment stand and the money that we received from the Mothers' Club attendance contest help- ed to boost our class treasury to 56234. The freshman girls took first and second place in the G.A.A. candy sale and participated in all of the intramural sports. On April 20, we held our class party. It was an old-fashioned barn dance. A good time was had by all. There has been an average of eleven freshmen on the honor roll throughout the year. 28 Row l, Left to Right: Carol Knapp, Gwen Schlaegel, Betty Woods, Bertha Pope, Patty Swank, Nancy Boring, Mary Flynn, Erma Palm, Donna Rainey, Marie Welch, Lynn Redman, Kay James, Linda Petty. The club ranks consist of the student body and faculty members who con- tribute sales tax stamps to the club treasury. The tax stamps, in turn, are redeemed and the money is used for worthy purposes. Included in our pur- chases this year are a portable radio for a student from India, who will use it in his travels as a missionary, and a hearing aid for a patient in Alum Crest Hospital. The club has also planned several other purchases for the near future. 39 A I , ,- A A 1 A ima . . , S- Seatedg Geneva Rarey, Rosalind Bohl, Jerry Goodyear, Patty Guyer, Roberta Richardson, Dwight Motts, Dale Trenary, Mickey Paolini, Standing: Delmer Norris, Iodine Masters, Ellen Fenner, Mary Kaye Nel- son, Marilyn Hedrick, Nancy McClish, Martha Palmer. The Junior Sextet jj Play ir, Rocky On the day January 6, 1954, the murder of Bob Ripley was reported to Sheriff Bill Steinmetz. An investigation by Coroner, Dick Behrens, followed the crime. Winkie Kleinlein, Bill Ferguson, and Virginia Jacob were put under arrest. The accused were then brought to trial. Despite the brilliant case set forth by Pros- ecuting, Attorney, Jim Malmstrom, the de- fendants were acquitted. After Iudge Mickey Paolini gave the verdict, the victim, Bob Ripley, was asked to point out his murderers. Sure enough, he pointed to Winkie Klein- lein, Bill Ferguson, and Virginia Jacob. COUNTY CITIZENSHIP DAY ...1---1 i - i This year's County Citizenship Day was held on Thursday, March 4. The represen- tatives from Groveport were Jim Malm- strom as Auditor, Don McKee as Judge of the Common Pleas, and Geneva Rarey as Juvenile Court Referee. Due to Jim's ab- sence on Citizenship Day, Bob Ripley sub- stituted for him. The campaigns waged this year were among the best ever. Something new was added in the way of conventions this year. Instead of having the campaigns given over the public address system, as had been the custom, an all high-school convention was held. During the entire campaign, everyone not only had a good time but they also learned first-hand good government. ,,,,,-1-nvvvv' ROMAN CITIZENS SOME MODERN DAY As days go by we wonder why We lost that certam game We should have passed but then agam we trled an end around I should ve taken that second strrke but grounded out mstead 1 That pass that shot that strrke It matters not we won or ost But how we played the game 5450 Qs ' VEP But if ure stop to think a b't, 1 . ., 1 .
