lace Zfwlafzg Frlday September 1 1930 dawned brlght and clear and wlth lt came the dawn of hugh school careers for one hundred twelye freshman students becomlng for the flrst tlme a part of f roye Hrgh School lhere were other new face Wllll us here, Crove had a new prlnclpal 'Nfr Dwrght 'Norman and three new teacher 'Nlr Crosswy Nlr Escue and Nfr Dayrs To lead lls through our f1rt year we cho e Nlarquis Xlexander a pre ldent Dan Brown yrce pre rdent Gayle C lllllflt' secretary and -Xnne Corbett treasurer Four of our number made the football team and we saw attendants fayle Cuthrle and Slurley 'Helton walk on the fneld a fre hman rcpresentatlyes for homecoming As sprlng came cheer leaders l'rank Vlason and R1 genla VIIIHHIOIIQ marshaled the class belund Robert Covington Sylyla Nlclwoy and lylargaret Hendrlcks ln the lnter class contest Soon we labored over our first flnal and 'yfay twelfth we ended our flr t year III hugh school -Xugust 24 1931 found nlnety seyen of us returnmg as proud sophomore That fall we had Nllss lresnell N11 Roberts and Nfr Wllllams to whom we could show the ropes Warren Brown, J D Burdm Warren Lawrence Dan Brown Btlly Ohyer Wayne lawerence and Dan Langford took to the fleld to represent the sophomores ln lroyes Lawrence vice presldent, Warren lawrence secretary and june Rushtng treasurer Our cheerleaders were Warren Brown and Shlrley Melton for the flrst time we led some of our members onto the basketball court 51X of us l'rank Cate Warren lawerence Bobby Underwood Nancy Nlatthews Jeanenne Nfarcus and Donna Veazev made the team When Januarv came, the forty flrst mter class contest had as our entrants Robert Covmgton fflrst 1n oratoryl Frank Nfason and Anne Corbett Football practlce started agaln, exams came and we had fII11Ql'lCd another year ,lumorsl and upperclassmen at last Back to brove we came and chose Marquls Alexander agaln as presldent and with hlm Frank Llttleton, VICC presldent and June Rushmg secretarv treasurer Almost before we had gotten settled we augmented our band on the football squad Wllll three more Marquls Alexander Hoffman Fry, and Bob French We dad our share wtth ba ketball too, puttmg Clayton Caddy Patsy MUSIHIH, Wrnme Prlnce leggy Odom and 'ylary Sue Turbeyrlle by the ard of those already there In the dead of wmter, we took top honors at the 1nter class contest wxth Larrv Vlcbehee, Robert Covington fflrst ln dramatlcsl and Frank Mason tflrst IH humorj That sprlng we took tlme off to say good bye to the class of 53 and gave them a banquet, but as soon as we fmtshed thls we crammed once more for our exams Another Prtday August 29 1953 Good Frlday for the srxty slx of us that were startlng our last year on the lull Semors at last w1th our classmates, 'ylarqurs Alexander and Warren Brown as football captams Two more lettermen Bobby Burke and Joe Bufflngton came from our ranks and as the gridiron season flew by we found ourselves slavmg to make the grandest homecommg 1n the lllSlOI'V of Grove for our queen, Peggy Odom In thns f1nal year we had at our helm Warren Lawrence as presldent Marquls Alexander, v1ce presldent Gavle Cuthrle as secretary and Anne Corbett as treasurer Basketball coaches Roberts and Settles led both teams to the playoff of the newly formed Lake Conference The inter class contest gave us another chance to show off our newly bought rlngs wh1le our colors of black and gold came through 1n the contest with all our entrants, Larry MCC-ehee Nancy Norman and Robert Covmgton wlnnmg frrst Then came the sprmg And now we take tlme out to thmk of the future and of the past These haye been good years these four at Crowe years ot work and plav sorrow and Joy, success and dlsappomt ment We end them hesltatmgly, not knowlng just what the future holds We take a last look at surroundlngs that we may never see agam and wonder why we d1dn't work more But whatever happens to us as tomorrow becomes today, we can never forget the things we learned. the ldeals we establlshed ln our yesterdays at Grove ROBERT COVINGTON I x ' s Q ' .
