wrth the feel mg that they were now not mere chrldren but young men and women We had the honor of berng the frrst freshmen to use Grove s new burldrng Weston Hall That was the year rn whrch Grove s football team had an undefeated season fthe best rn the school s hrstoryl endrng wrth a 2120 vrctory over Central Hrgh School of Memphrs rn the Jackson Exchange Bowl Betty Lou Jones and Brllre .10 Sensrng were chosen as freshmen attendants to the Football Queen Elected as offrcers for our frrst year were the followrng Franklyn Thompson Presr dent Lee Kleese Vrce Presrdent, Carolyn Brrsendrne Secretary and Bobbre Sue Black Treasurer and Peggy French and ,lrmmy Krmmons Cheerleaders The basketball season got off to a good start wrth success almost as great as that the football team had had The thrrty nrnth annual rnter class contest was held on St Patrrck s Day March 17 Freshmen Representa trves were Mac Luckey Franklyn Thompson frrst rn humorl and ,lean Vaughn At last the frnal exams came and on Mav 12 the whrrlwrnd exrstence we had been lrvrng was over and our frrst year at Grove was hrstory On Frrday September 1 1950 the doors of Grove were opened' to us agam but now we were sophomores few with rndrfference but none wrth fear To gurde us through that school year we had a new prrncrpal Mr Dwrght Norman who came from Brazelton .lunror Hrgh rn Paducah Kentucky Charles Scholes was elected Presrdent of our class Barley Abernathy Vrce Presrdent Carolyn Brrsendrne Secretary and Shrrley Brown Treasurer The cheerleaders elected the past year Peggy French and ,lrmmy Krmmons served agarn that year Football attendants were Betty Lou Jones and Barbara Vaughn Football lettermen were Barley Abernathy O B Graves Jrmmy Krmmons and Charles Scholes joy Clark and Ann Vaughn earned letters rn basketball On Thursday evenrng January 25 the rnter class contest was held Sophomore repre sentatrves were Shrrley Brown Mac Luckey and Neal Weaver The days and months passed we crammed for exams got our report cards-crred or shouted and for three months we were free' August 24 1951 the halfway mark rn our hrgh school career There were only seventy seven of us left to plow through that our thrrd year, at Grove New teachers that year were Mrss Presnell Mr Wrl lrams and Mr McRee Elected as junror offrcers were Charles Scholes Presrdent Barley Abernathy Vrce Presrdent, Margaret Bums Secretary, and 0 B Graves Treasurer Lettermen that year were Barley Abernathy Nrchol Brrtt Brlly Dyer 0 B Graves Jrmmy lxrmmons Brlly Mrchael Charles Scholes Bobby Shemwell and Brlly Grbson and Ted .lanes Managers Football attendants Mary Scott Luster and Barbara Vaughn Basketball lettermen were Ralph Boothe and Nrchol Brrtt Margaret Burns Joy Clark Nancy Compton Nancy Myrrck Ann Vaughn and Barbara Vaughn were letter wrnners rn grrls' basket ball That vear we decrded to make money for a semor class trrp and nowhere were there as many busy people as we Makrng paper hats rn typrng class sellrng home made candy to the other classes blowrng up balloons rn geometry selllng trckets at basketball games that project of ours was perhaps the hrgh pornt of the year for every member of the class On Thursdav January 17 as a prelude to the rnter class contest we junrors had the entlre student body rollrn rn the arsles wrth our stunt whrch centered around hosprtal operatrons on representatrves of rrval classes The brg event rtself was held rn Weston Hall the nrght of the 17th Our entrants were vlary Alrce Hooser Mac Luckey and Brlly Mann Chosen as members of the Natronal Honor Socrety were .loan Evans Mac Luckey Brll Mann and Charles Scholes Exam trme agam and then the fateful Frrday when our future was revealed 1952 our last year We had hoped to make thrs our best but our hopes were short lrved Thrs was to be the hardest yet the most enjoyable year at Grove To steer us through our frnal year we elected Charles Scholes Presrdent ,Irmmy Krmmons Vrce Presrdent Shrrley Brown Secretary Treasurer Betty Cowan and Brll Mrchael Cheerleaders The football team chose as therr queen Barbara Vaughn Her attendants from our class were Martha Lou Atkrns and Bobbre Sue Black Football lettermen were Charles Scholes Captarn, O B Graves, Co Captarn, Barley Abernathy Nrchol Brrtt Brlly Crbson Brlly Mrchael Bobby Shemwell and Brlly Provow Novem ber 3 1952 was an rnterestrng day-one to be remembered for years to come Two mock candrdates Brll Mann as Ersenhower and Mac Luckey as Steven son gave speeches for therr respectrve polrtrcal partres at a rally rn the audrtorrum The next day the entrre school voted just as the rest of the natron was dorng, however the results were opposrte On November 25 a short trme after electron we senrors recerved our class rrngs and were we proud' Before Chrrstmas as rn past years we took mrd term examrnatrons Havrng frnrshed these we were free to enjoy our last Chrrstmas as Grove students Decem ber 29 back at Grove for the last roundup Soon rt was rnter class contest trme wrth the usual excrtement Thrs year Mac Luckey Qfrrst rn oratoryj Brll Mann and Carolyn Travrs represented us and now rt s almost over the four long hard years at Grove Our ups and downs our joys and sorrows all past and recorded on the pages of hrs tory We are glad that we have frnrshed and have realrzed that others were rrght when they told us that our years at Grove would be the happrest years of our rves When our days at Grove are really over they wrll be just a memory a warm glow ever present rn the recesses of our mrnds ln years to come we wrll look back and wrsh our personal records could have been better however they cannot be changed now We wrll leave Grove as young men and women some wrth expectatron some wrth rndrfference and some wrth fear but all wrth gratitude for the help the correctrons and the advrce grven us by our teachers These years were not spent rn varn and thanks to the rnfluences of Grove we are better
