l6t0l y 0 tAQ 661,15 0 1 September 1947 we were freshmen 133 of us climbing Grove H111 for the first time To help us start our hugh school careers we elected for our class officers Robert Scarbrough president B111 Brown vice president Betty Kistenmacher secretary Doyal Reece treasurer Betty o Workman and Ben McKinnon cheerleaders Miss Nell Diggs was the new faculty member The Parts School Band had been reorgamzed and seseral freshmen were mem bers of the band The football team had a good season loslng only two games and wmntng eight For our attendants to the queen we chose Betty o Workman and Betty Klstenmacher Ben McKinnon was the only freshman to letter that year That spring we were represen ed in the Inter class Con test by Martha Sue Frtzslmmons who won first place m dramatrcs Marilyn McFadden and Ann Compton It wasn t long untrl final exams and our first year at Grove was oxer We returned in September 1948 ready to work a lnttle harder for we had only three more years Reece president Robert Scarbrough vice presl dent Shirley Paschall secretary Bill Brown treas urer Madelon Owen and lmmy Fltzslmmons cheerleaders All that year we eagerly followed the constructnon of the new burldmg which would be ready for us the next year Betty Krstenmacher was chosen as our attendant to the football queen Out of eleven games the team won seven and tted one Lettermen were Ben McKinnon Doyal Reece and manager I ewts Allen Our representattves m the Inter class Contest were Clydean Elmore first place 1n humor jo Anne Paschall and Marilyn McFadden We left school that spring looking forward to the next year and the use of the new burldmg Weston Hall juniors at last we were upper classmen W started the year off right by electmg Robert Scar brough president Doyal Reece vice president Tom Mmor secretary treasurer Dorothy Kimmons and Richard Ross cheerleaders We were very proud of Weston Hall and were determined to do our part in keeping xt looking clean The football team finlshed the season wxth a perfect record eleven v1ctor1es no losses and no tres This in cluded the Exchange Bowl victory jumor attend ants to the queen were Shirley Paschall and Betty o IN orkman umor lettermen were Ben Nlclxm non Robert Scarbrough Doyal Reece Richard Ross nmmy umn Earl Thompson and Lewis Xllen In the sprmg we were represented m the Inter class Contest by jo Anne Paschall Betty o Workman and Harriet VVheatley junior members elected to the Iwattonal Honor Society were Sara Lyon Carol Berry Martha Sue Fntzslmmons and Harriet Wheatley We left school in May with only one more year at Growe and we determmed to make it the best one yet September was finally here and we were seniors' 1Ne had a new principal Mr Dwight Norman and three teachers Mr Wxlliam Crosswy Mr Mayo Escue and Mr joe Davls to add to the faculty Robert Scarbrough was again elected class presx dent Tom Mmor WlCCP1'CSldCIll Shirley Paschall secretary treasurer Madelon Owen and Earl Thompson cheerleaders were the other officers At the Homecoming game Dorothy Klmmons was non Her attendants from the senior class were Betty jo Workman and Martha Sue Frtzslmmons As the 1950 football season passed into history Grove s record was three victories seven losses 'md one tie Senior lettermen were Ben McKinnon Robert Scarbrough Earl Thompson Doyal Reece jimmy umn Richard Ross ohn Burton Frank Hooser Billy joe McGuire Irmmy Edwards and managers Lewts Allen and Sam Ed Brown Ben McKinnon received the Frsk award at the annual football banquet The seniors created quite a st1r on November 21 when the rmgs arrived We re turned after mid term exams and settled down for the final semester of work The basketball teams got off to a good start with several wms and only a few losses jean Redmon and Thelma Manning were co captams of the grrls team and Rrchard Ross was captam of the boys And now our hlgh school days are something of the past But well never forget what we learned or failed to learn and as we face our problems as adults well look back over these days and be grateful to our teachers for being patient and helping us to achieve our goals HARRIET WHEATLEY cjwl' K 6 , ' 3 ' ' . , j' Q 'I , . .
