The chief aims of the society are to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate the desire to render service, to promote leadership, and develop character in the pupils of the county schools. To become a member of this society you must be a Junior or Senior, and have a B average or better. Then the teachers choose from this group, students who also meet requirements in leadership, character, and service. In 1947 the first group of Juniors, now Seniors, were initiated at Groveport. They are left to right: first row, Dottie Davis, Virginia Foster, Janice Listg second row, Gus Johnson, Phyllis Lewisg third row, Grady Feaster, Jerry Eyerman, Herman Rehder. CJoan Rowley, not picturedj The second group were initiated in November, 1947, at Hamilton Twp. High School. The old members felt that the Honor Society didn't have enough social life, so they got permission to have an informal initiation day. The old members made the new members shine their shoes and carry their lunch and all sorts of odd tricks. They also had an assembly in which these new members had to recite poems and read all kinds of silly things. They are pictured in the second picture in this order: first row, Joann Bohner, Dorothy Phillips, and Marian Breckenridge. Sec- ond rovvi Helen Kennedy, Nyla Stratton, Harold Jones, and Betty England. QBob Wilcox not picture .J The last group were initiated in our own auditorium. Everyone was very busy a few days before this big banquet-initiation. We decided to change the general routine program. Instead we had a quiz program with Bob McCrosky of Ohio State as quizmaster. This was the first time this banquet was held at Grove City for about 8 years. Those in the last group are: first row, Mae Miller, Dottie Keene, second row, Joe Purdon, Carl Patzer, Alston Trout, third row, Cath- erine Mathers, Mary Rieke. 1' iffy-eight
