Setevz .--.N In Bama! of Zcfucalfion One night out of every month a group of the local school board members meet and discuss the problems of the school. Mr. Joseph E. Milligan, President, was elected with Mr. Walter Grossman in 19-17. In 1945 the other mem- bers, Mrs. Florence Gross- man. vice-president, Mrs. Ava Corzilius, and Mr. Cur- tis Kunz were elected. On these few people rest the policies of the school and their responsibilities. The Senior Class wishes to express their appreciation to those who served in this capacity during their twelve years in the Jackson Township Schools. Q Wulf' Eight paaenl' 7eacfae1zfi 14440 ' ' The Parent Teacher's Association of Grove City, Ohio. is entering its thirteenth year of service to the school. This year has been no exception, the organization having contrib- uted radios, victrolas and encyclopedias to the three schools. One of the main projects of the P.T.A. is the sponsoring of music week each spring. At that time concerts are presented by the three divisions of the music department. The purpose of music week is to raise money for the music and instrumental fund. The association is planning to buy a school flag for the band as soon as a design is selected. Monthly meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month during the school term. These meetings give the parents a chance to become acquainted with their children's instructors. Va- ried programs are provided for these meetings. The graduating class of 1948 wishes to express its sincere thanks and appreciation to the P.T.A. for the help and assistance they have shown in the publica- tion of the Greyhound. The chief aims of the society are to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate the desire to render service, to promote leadership, and develop character in the pupils of the county schools. To become a member of this society you must be a Junior or Senior, and have a B average or better. Then the teachers choose from this group, students who also meet requirements in leadership, character, and service. In 1947 the first group of Juniors, now Seniors, were initiated at Groveport. They are left to right: first row, Dottie Davis, Virginia Foster, Janice Listg second row, Gus Johnson, Phyllis Lewisg third row, Grady Feaster, Jerry Eyerman, Herman Rehder. CJoan Rowley, not picturedj The second group were initiated in November, 1947, at Hamilton Twp. High School. The old members felt that the Honor Society didn't have enough social life, so they got permission to have an informal initiation day. The old members made the new members shine their shoes and carry their lunch and all sorts of odd tricks. They also had an assembly in which these new members had to recite poems and read all kinds of silly things. They are pictured in the second picture in this order: first row, Joann Bohner, Dorothy Phillips, and Marian Breckenridge. Sec- ond rovvi Helen Kennedy, Nyla Stratton, Harold Jones, and Betty England. QBob Wilcox not picture .J The last group were initiated in our own auditorium. Everyone was very busy a few days before this big banquet-initiation. We decided to change the general routine program. Instead we had a quiz program with Bob McCrosky of Ohio State as quizmaster. This was the first time this banquet was held at Grove City for about 8 years. Those in the last group are: first row, Mae Miller, Dottie Keene, second row, Joe Purdon, Carl Patzer, Alston Trout, third row, Cath- erine Mathers, Mary Rieke. 1' iffy-eight Gonna! The Grove City High School marching band thrilled its spectators last fall when it marched on the gridiron parading snappy new uniforms. Under the direction of Mr. Richard L. Harris, the band gave some en- joyable half-time performances on the local gridiron. Majorette Marian Breckenridge and her assistants, Peggy Kanode, Margaret Ann White, Margie Cox and Colleen Nibert ma- neuvered the band through some intricate formations, such as: a map of Ohio, a merry- go-round, Grandfather's clock, a Greyhound, script-writing of G.C., and others. During the season the marching band trav- eled to Worthington and performed at the game there. The local musicians played host to Hilliards, Mifflin, Reynoldsburg and Groveport. In the summer months of 1947 the band participated in several outside activities. They played for the annual Fire-Fighters benefit baseball game at the Red Bird Sta- dium, Ohio State Fair, Columbus Centennial Parade in which they won second prize, Mount Sterling and Galloway homecomings, and Circleville Pumpkin Show. During the Community Chest campaign they played for a banquet which was held at the Southern Hotel. They wound up a very successful season by marching in the annual Citizen Christmas parade.
