Our 1966 Grove City High School Golfers were supported by three inner mollvoting forces: Dedicotion. Drive ond Determinotlon. Dedicoted ployers. Ryon Elliot ond Dove Mowery. concentrated on golf the entire summer by doily practicing their gome or the Country Club. Doth Shown Sowers ond Al Montgomery teed off eoch doy in their dockyards to get os much practice time os possible. As the season progressed, teom dedicotion enabled Eagle Golfers to improve their scores dramatically. Another key factor for the team s success wos drive to excell. Although Ston Miller ond Mike Wholen hod earned positions os starters, rhey worked hard during rhe seoson to Improve their form ond scores. Contrary. Kent Dutler ond Curtis Ifft were not in the top six. but tirelessly practiced to drive ond putt more accurately to prepore themselves Just In cose Cooch Clarke needed them. At the seoson's beginning. Ron Elford wos nor one of the storting six. Dut. through sheer determi-notion, by midfoil, he wos swinging with rhe other top five storrers. Ron Elfords determination really mode o difference in the team s total performance . sold Cooch Clorke. Another determined golfer was Doug Donnels. As rhe number one ployer. his gome continually sharpened by seeking out ond practicing with stiff competition during pre-seoson work-outs.
