Exceeding Expectations The Lady Eagles climb the ladder of success The Lady Eagles Volleyball Team pur rogerher on astounding season this year With rhe character that each of these girls displayed. rhe ream definitely exceeded all of rhe coaches and fans expectations. The ream ended their regular season with a record of 16-4. This record placed them third in rhe District 10 AAA standings. It also qualified them as one of rhe sixteen reams to go to rhe stare tournament. This mokes them only rhe second athletic ream in rhe history of Grove City High School to advance to rhe stare level of competition. Throughout rhe season each girl learned from their mistakes and come back with that winning spirit and attitude. This was evident with Michelle Sreigerwold's performance during rhe stare semifinal gome against Corry. The Lady Eagles had previously lost a heartbreaking game ogoinsr West Middlesex, which would have led to a tie for rhe Mercer County Leogue Champion. Leaving rhe disappointment behind, they come bod strong with power spiking by Michelle Sreigerwokj to defeat Corry ond qualify for rhe stare tournament. 1967 3-Dimensional Golf Team Golfers did nor need screoming specrorors. blosrs from pep bonds, or chonrs from short-skirted cheerleoders on the quiet stretches of foirwoys ond putting greens. Our 1966 Grove City High School Golfers were supported by three inner mollvoting forces: Dedicotion. Drive ond Determinotlon. Dedicoted ployers. Ryon Elliot ond Dove Mowery. concentrated on golf the entire summer by doily practicing their gome or the Country Club. Doth Shown Sowers ond Al Montgomery teed off eoch doy in their dockyards to get os much practice time os possible. As the season progressed, teom dedicotion enabled Eagle Golfers to improve their scores dramatically. Another key factor for the team s success wos drive to excell. Although Ston Miller ond Mike Wholen hod earned positions os starters, rhey worked hard during rhe seoson to Improve their form ond scores. Contrary. Kent Dutler ond Curtis Ifft were not in the top six. but tirelessly practiced to drive ond putt more accurately to prepore themselves Just In cose Cooch Clarke needed them. At the seoson's beginning. Ron Elford wos nor one of the storting six. Dut. through sheer determi-notion, by midfoil, he wos swinging with rhe other top five storrers. Ron Elfords determination really mode o difference in the team s total performance . sold Cooch Clorke. Another determined golfer was Doug Donnels. As rhe number one ployer. his gome continually sharpened by seeking out ond practicing with stiff competition during pre-seoson work-outs. Coach Clorke stressed thot dedicorion. drive ond determination not only would produce o winning seoson (9-5). but also yielded lifetime divi-dends. Golf is o chorocrer building sport.
