19 2 4 PINE KNOT TL IE b i t n r i a I ine not for a year book, as each class in the past. 'or here in your hand is “The Pine Knot” at last. The Staff of the Pine Knot have tried to portray faithfully t drama of ’23-’24 at Grove City Hi and “Your humble patience pray, gently to hear, kindly to judge our play.” We wish to thank our advertisers, subscribers and contributors for their loyal support in this, the first edition of a regular year book, by Grove City Hi. One of the important duties of this staff was the choosing of, a name. It was thought the name should be characteristic of the town. Allusion to Wolf Creek had been pre-empted by a College publication, so the former name of Grove City, “Pine Grove” suggested to us “Pine Cone.” “Pine Nut,” “Pine Needle,” “Pine Stump,” “Pine Log,” “Piney,” and “Pine Knot” as appropriate to come from a Grove. The first we feared our friends might say we had gone to seed, the second suggested a dumbbell, the third is even sharper than we wish to be, the (Stump and the Log are quite unpoetic. The Knot although almost tough has a beautiful grain (Look for this in the Senior Writeups.) A Pine Knot con so much rezin that no kindling other than a match is needed to start a good fire. Readers will notice we have struck several matches. We expect the fire to burn brightly at least until the next issue of “The Pine Knot.” Think, too, how historical rich the word “Knot” is—the Gordon Knot, Matrimonial Knot, Hangman’s Knot, etc. -------o------- Article taken from original 1924 Pine Knot.” In celebration of the 60th anniversary , the “Pine Knot , we have worked hard to improve and strengthen the traditional Pine Knot memory book. We have cut away the old limbs and strengthened the new by creating a theme to add interest. Because of the phenomenal growth of the community, new and exciting changes in administration, and the mighty boost of physical fitness, the yearbook staff feels that we can finally say We're shaping up!

As the day begins at Grove City Area High School many familiar sites and sounds greet the droopy-eyed students entering the building. The everyday site of students doing last minute homework in the student lounge, the cafeteria, the library or homeroom; the mad frenzied rush of getting to homeroom before the 8:20 bell and then the infamous, Good morning today is Friday 1984, please rise for the pledge of Allegiance and remain standing for silent medatation. Even as-late-as second period many students are still stumbling around in a daze. As the day progresses students start to wake-up (some what) around lunch (mainly because of the ever present wonderful aroma). The rest of the day is generally a blur for most but the highlight of the blur is making plans for the evening: they probably include a Basketball game or wrestling match then a stop at Mac's or a radical party. As 3:19 approaches an astonishing metamorphosis occurs ... . a sudden jolt of electricity seems to take hold of the student body and even the most docile person becomes rowdy. Plans are finalized as the bell rings .... people swarm the exits of the school and rush to the student parking lot, a bus or begin the trek home for the many who walk. Some dedicated souls remain behind to participate in the vast array of after school activities, such as cheerleading, french club, N.H.S., and Key club. And thus another day has ended at Grove City High. 2
